Attorneys agree to an immediate sidebar. Prosecution talks about wanting to admit 4 videos, says Vicente is expected to testify to edits on the videotapes. Agnifilo agrees but says he will cross examine this. End of sidebar, jury is brought in, Vicente still on the stand.
Vicente says today he knows altering the videotapes was illegal. He now describes the process in which he altered the tapes, says others assisted him. He explains who these people are and their connection to NXIVM. He says this was a lengthy process.
Says he was directed by Raniere and others to alter the tapes. He explains the process in detail again. Says he never watched the tapes in their entirety, just the portions he altered. Prosecution shows him an email to Nancy Salzman discussing the alterations to the tapes.
Now showing a memo Vicente wrote to the editing team titled "The project That Never Seemed to End." Says he had a low tolerance for things that didn't have an end date. Says this functioned as a to-do list. Request for a sidebar.
Agnifilo raises issue with a person on the editing team named Kristen, but no last name. Brings issue with this saying the jury now knows she's being considered a victim of sex trafficking. Prosecution says this person was a second line slave in DOS and branded.
Prosecution says she is "clearly a victim." Says she may be testifying in this case. End of sidebar. Prosecution now showing Vicente more emails still talking about the timeline of the project. Says he was also asked to "age" the outside of the tapes with sandpaper.
Vicente says he altered these tapes as as way to gain approval. Discusses more alterations he made to the tapes including static cut-in, intermittent signal, and two forms of straight cuts. Prosecution submits tapes subject to connection. Agnifilo asks for voir dire examination.
Agnifilo asks Vicente if he can tel the edits were intentional just by looking at them. Says no because he never watched the tapes in their entirety. Vicente says after all these years he can't say specifically which tapes were altered.
Prosecution asks for sidebar. Agnifilo says Vicente will not be able to link the tapes to anything he specifically did, prosecution agrees but still wants Vicente to testify to the edits. Judge says "see what you can do." Sidebar ends.
Back to talking to Vicente about the edits. He says these edits would not have happened naturally. This time the tapes are admitted by the judge when offered. Says other witnesses will authenticate the tapes. Says he will rule later whether jury can use the tapes in deliberation.
Prosecution plays some of the videos in court. Vicente identifies some of the possible edits that were made. Here we come to the end of testimony from Thursday. Judge instructs the jury. Jury dismissed.
Now the judge addresses the tapes with the attorneys. they talk more about the future witness that will authenticate the videos. Prosecution says they hope to conclude their direct examination of Vicente on Monday (today). Court is done after this.
