@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha i have never heard of British Herald. Who TF are they?
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha Let's understand this better. British Herald (BH) is a a web portal
claims to be "a world leader in online news and information delivery". It is owned by Herald Media Network Limited. It works via Reuters, it says. Who are Herald Media? U ask. Read on. britishherald.com
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha Herald Media is a company incorporated on 4 April 2018. @CompaniesHouse tells you that it's Nature of business (with SIC codes) is:
63120 - Web portals
63910 - News agency activities
SIC stands for Standard Industrial Classification of economic activity.
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha @CompaniesHouse Its Directors are:
Ansif Ashraf, 35, Indian, appointed at incorporation
Shameela Jabeen, 35, British appoointed 21 Jun 2019
Adnan Niroukh, 47, British, appointed 21 Jun 2019
KOLIYAD SHAMSUDDEEN, Ahamed Shamseer, 33, Indian, appointed 11 October 2018.
see:
beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/112892…
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha @CompaniesHouse According to its first abbreviated accounts made up to 30 April 2019 and filed on 2 Jun 2019: net assets of £17,209, made up almost entirely of cash in bank of 16,785. It made a loss of 6,166.
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha @CompaniesHouse British Herald did indeed run a readers choice for world's most powerful leader: Modi pipped Putin to win by a whisker with a 1% lead. No idea about the number of people who visited the website and actually voted. A panel of expert judges (un named) whittled down a field of 25.
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha @CompaniesHouse The website further claims that voting required verification thru a mobile OTP system and at the height of the voting 3 million hits in a week crashed the website! But the website provides no data on the actual number who voted and their geographic dsitribution.
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha @CompaniesHouse Finally, Herald Media Network's registered address 156 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge SW3 1HW, is shared by a small business known as Al Noor Pharmacy.
@samjawed65 @sanjayuvacha @CompaniesHouse My conclusion is that this competition was a clever ploy by this enterprising start up to direct traffic to its website and thus convince advertisers to sign up. What better way to get millions of hits than to use a phoney internet competition using #PMModi's name.

#HijabRow.
Thread.
Lets go back to basics. What is the core question?
Might be easier to define what it is NOT.
1. It is not whether Hijab is mandated by Islam. You could have a decades-long debate on that Q and still not get universal agreement. It Does NOT matter.
2. It is not whether a Hijab (or for that matter a #Ghunghat, a turban, a #mangalsutra or whatever) is a regressive practice. Women are repressed in all communities. And you could hardly argue that @IlhanMN or Halimah Yacob suffer repression
#Hijab and repression are NOT linked.
3. The Q is not "Why do some women insist on wearing a #Hijab?". You could, with equal stupidity, ask "Why do some women not wear a Hijab or a Ghunghat?"

This is so true, when faced with trolls.
From Prof Michael Berry, #UCLA, translator of Wuhan Diary at today's AAS Digital Dialogues Webinar. ImageImage
Every Indian should listen to and reflect the presentation given by @NitashaKaul at today's AAS Digital Dialogues webinar . She described the vile tactics used by the Hindutva ecosystem of coercion, control and 'othering' of anyone who dares challenge their propaganda

The SmPC (Summary of Product Characteristics) for #Covaxin (see the link to Bharat Biotech's website here: bharatbiotech.com/images/covaxin…
has not been updated since the #EUA was granted for use in the 12-18 year age group. It still says (page 1):
"COVAXIN® is indicated for active immunization against SARS-CoV-2 Virus infection for age ≥18years."

The SmPC is a legal document that is part of the approval process. On the question of expiry date, it says:(page 10),
"6.3 Shelf life
The expiry date of COVAXIN® is indicated on the label and carton of the vaccine. Do not use the
vaccine after the expiration date shown on the label and carton of the vaccine."

#Omicron in India - a thread.
Thanks to all those who replied to my question yesterday, esp @Rukmini @PriyankaPulla @RijoMJohn and @pash22
I've pieced together some data and information from @PIB_India website and PRs from @MoHFW_INDIA . Here's what I can glean.
1. New cases of #Omicron infections began to be reported daily only on 21 Dec when there were 200 cases in the preceding 24 hours. (note there is a lag of 4-5 days for genome sequencing to be done)
2. On 29 Dec there were 781 cases in 24 hours.
That's a 4 fold growth but lags in reporting the Dec 25 holioday period etc make this a vbery crude estimate of growth. Total Covid cases (i.e. all variants) over the same period grew fromaround 7,000 cases on 19/20 Dec to 9,195 cases on 29 Dec.

#ElectoralBonds the real story. A Measure of Corruption at the HIghest Levels of Political Power in India -
Headline figure: 8,000 Crore Rupees. = 80 Billion INR = 1.06 Billion US Dollars.
Where do these figures come from? The Horse's mouth.
How? A written reply in #LokSabha.
On 13 Dec 2021 Miinister of State (finance) Pankaj Chaudhuri answered Question No 2314. See the link here: http://164.100.24.220/loksabhaquestions/annex/177/AU2314.pdf
In the 18 rounds since they were launched in Dec 2018, the total sum of money that passed to Political parties from donors via #ElectoralBonds was:
INR 79,94, 97,75,000. i.e just shy of 8,000 Crores.
Conveniently, the reply stated: Party-wise data "is not collated centrally"

India's wholesale prices index - the facts.
from tradingeconomics.com/india/producer…
The annual wholesale price inflation rate in India rose to 14.23 percent in November 2021 from 12.54 percent in the previous month, beating market forecasts of 11.9 percent.
This marked the highest figure since December 1998. The price-inflation for fuel (39.81 %) and power (37.18 percent in October).
It's worth spending a moment to understand what is being measured in the WPI. In India this is the most important measure of infaltion. sooner or later these costs are passed on to the consumer. See:
