Whoa, chatting about this with @MaggieCaroline1, I’ve realized something upsetting.
Back in the late 80s/early 90s, Peter Sellars directed the three Mozart/Da Ponte operas. All were made into very fine videos—from which this exceptional performance of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson comes. All were set in modern day New York.
Here’s the thing, though: the production of Marriage of Figaro was set in ... Trump Tower.
Really.
Not making this up.

For some reason, I can find no videos of any of this production on YouTube, although both the Don Giovanni and the Cosi are amply represented.
