It's a knotty story, spanning several lawsuits and bar complaints going years back.

The whole thing has been a side-plot to the Epstein case, of course, but the renewed scrutiny will inevitably blow the whole thing up.

There's a lot at stake. Among those things are the reputations of Alan Dershowitz and David Boies, the two most important private attorney in the past quarter century of American history. insider.com/alan-dershowit…

But why hasn't Dershowitz been charged or even investigated, if two women accused him of sexual misconduct? Well, according to Boies's lawsuit, Dershowitz is one of the secret co-conspirators in the non-prosecution deal Epstein signed in 2008.

Dershowitz says he wasn't involved in brokering the non-prosecution agreement. The secret co-conspirators in the deal, Dershowitz told me, are the young girls Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell used to recruit other girls in their sex-trafficking scheme.

Dershowitz hired Louis Freeh, the former FBI director, to clear his name. He declined to show me a full report of Freeh's investigation beyond a few statements that were already public. insider.com/alan-dershowit…

So if Dershowitz's accusers are lying, what's their motive? According to him, it was part of a scheme engineered by David Boies to shake down Victoria's Secret owner Leslie Wexner of $1 billion.

Dershowitz has also been trying to discredit his accusers. One of them, he said, wrote "hundreds of pages of emails" claiming some wild things, like that she has sex tapes of Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and Richard Branson.

Dershowitz told me he hopes those emails will be among the documents unsealed in a separate case involving Maxwell, and will therefore exonerate him. They may be unsealed as soon as this upcoming week. insider.com/alan-dershowit…
