DOJ has an opinion that the sitting President can’t be prosecuted for the crimes it has discovered because he’s too busy and anyways Congress can impeach him. justice.gov/sites/default/…
DOJ also has an opinion that it’s unnecessary for Congress ask the prosecutor who investigated some of the President’s crimes any questions, and that this prosecutor may only answer questions from Congress the president has said he is okay with beforehand.
DOJ also has opinions that Congress can’t compel anyone who works or worked for the President to testify, even if they know about the crimes DOJ discovered but can’t prosecute. justice.gov/olc/file/11832… (Conway)

DOJ also has an opinion that Congress can’t look at the President’s tax returns to see whether they can find some crimes themselves (notwithstanding the federal law that says they can look at anyone’s tax returns). justice.gov/olc/file/11737…
I could go on, but you get the point. DOJ has not only placed the President beyond the reach of its own authority—conferred by the people—to enforce federal criminal law. It has also made it harder and harder for Congress to find out whether the President should be impeached.
And so I say again, why should the taxpayers pay for a department that’s not serving the constitution or the public interest?
