I still have a feeling Sony's film division gonna end up like FOX maybe in the next 3 years or less. Even tho they did made $1 billion at the box office from Spider-Man:FFH w/Marvel Studios help and they got some movies coming out it might not be enough.
They are gonna still have a hard time to catch up to WB,Universal,and let's not get started on Disney. Paramount is also in that same scenario but not as worse as Sony. But it's not surprising that their film division ain't getting better even tho they have a few hits.
Even if some people don't see it there's always something going on behind the scenes w/Sony Execs over their film division. TBH,I believe Sony's tech and gaming division will most likely do fine w/o their movies studios. They could keep their TV & movie division in that factor.
Right now,Apple could be one of those people that could potentially buy their film division since they have the money to do it and they want to boost their streaming services by adding Sony Pictures library to it and Amazon could also could get into the mix as well.
We know Disney is not gonna buy another studio since they got Fox. Paramount is also out of the question even if the CBS-Viacom merger goes through. So WB or Universal would be the most likely two studios that could still be in play.
But IMO,I believe Apple and Universal is would be the most likely candidates to go peruse Sony in buying their film division. But it gonna between those 2 to make at move when that time comes. Whether people like it or not,Sony as a film division might already be in its last days
Who knows not if but when that time will run out for Sony but with a ever changing entertainment industry and streaming wars is on the rise,Sony Pictures eventually gonna end up with someone that looking to get their library or IPs. Only a matter of time.
