You’re totally right, Moose, this is a small cliff collapse. Please don’t get too close — even if it’s relatively small, even a single falling rock can hurt or kill.

But it is neat to see beach sand replenishing from bluff erosion. Plush moose sitting on a rock that fell from a nearby yellow bluff

Fort Cronkhite, California is one of my fav beaches.

Every beach has many geologic processes are just waiting for you to notice them, but Cronkhite takes you on a geologic tour of the Bay Area. Looking over rocks to surging wavesLooking down a shallow pebble-sand beach with surging waves, bluffs in the distant background
Here’s the cliff bluff of the beach, my Earth Ring (with or without hand) for scale.

Can you see thebeds, layered lines of rock deposited at the same same? See the pebbles?
Those cliffs erode, relinquishing their pebbles on to the beach.

The pebbles were originally from all over the ancient Bay Area, giving us a hand-sized geologic sample of the region.

Once upon a time, an underwater landslide (turbidity current) buried this particular patch of sea floor.

The landslide deposits (turbidite) is that tall yellow sandy bit.
Turbidity currents are an interesting style of landslide because they’re density-driven flows: a dense fluid (water & sediment) running out under a less-dense fluid (seawater) across solid ground.

They can be fast or slow.

Stratigraphy is how geoscientists learn the order of events for a landscape. I always think of it like unravelling a murder mystery where your crime scene is rock.

It only has 6 rules, but you won’t need all of them to read these particular rocks.

And while yes, they are indisputably the Best Bird Feet, I’m still feeling strongly that’s a split title with at least a dozen species.
Blue-footed boobies know their feet are spectacular, featuring them in an “Look at mah sexxxy feet!” dance.

Aside: did you know other species of boobies are also adorbs?!
Have you seen snowy owl feet? They’re fluffballs of doom. Like kittens? You’ll love this cozy nest of feathers encompassing freaking terrifying death-talons

I want to talk about the importance of mentorship.

Avery's thread is directed at people who wish to make a living (or at least supplement their income) by making ttrpgs. Making a living at ttrpgs is definitely not easy—there are just basic market factors at play—but if you really want to have a go at it, try to find a mentor.
When I started moving The Gauntlet into publishing, I was fortunate enough to have experienced people like @trumonz and @kylejsimons to help me learn the ropes. (And I'm still learning!)

Over the years, a few dozen loyal readers have written me asking about industry best practices regarding unauthorized disposal of human remains in the National Park system.

With park enforcement severely curtailed at the moment, now is a good time to answer.

1/
Ideally, you'd want fairly thorough disposal. A modern crematorium is your best bet, though even a modest one can set you back considerably, not including the price of fuel, rent, etc.

2/
Most of my readers will also know to ask a friendly pig farmer if he's willing to starve a few hogs for a few days. I advise against this approach, as maintaining silence can be expensive and risky.

I don't think the very rich people who control the levers of power don't believe in climate change; I think they are banking on the fact that they have the resources to survive it while the rest of us perish. I think this is actually their preferred outcome.
I don't think they're actually planning to terraform Mars or travel to some distant exoplanet. I think they like this one just fine, but maybe without all the pesky people.
Next time you're wondering why Trump (or anyone) advances policies that worsen climate change, consider that it's not out of disbelief, but deliberate acceleration. I used to think the endgame was to impoverish and effectively enslave most of humanity; now I think it's genocide.

It's hard not to be hugely cynical about most ICOs. I spent 4 years banging my head against the wall and failing to fundraise to build real products. Now ex-cons pumping shitcoins can more or less easily raise tens of millions of dollars on a slide deck and bullshit whitepaper.
I thought the dumb coin backed by storage (which decreases in value in line with Moore's Law) was the stupidest thing in the universe until I started seeing some of this other stuff. Almost none of it solves any real problems or has any technical infrastructure underneath it.
A lot of people are assuming that there will be an "oh shit" moment when people who raised in an ICO realize they actually have to build a blockchain and make it work. But that assumes that most of them won't just run off with the money.
