I get it, and I understand it. The media - and "journalists" in particular - have an important role to play in a free and democratic society, particularly in the lead up to an election. Their role is to inform the public.
Ideally, they should be cutting through political rhetoric and party spin, and providing context, so that voters can make their own judgements.
On the other hand, I also understand and empathize with Unifor's position.
Conservative govts have a long history of being against unions, of trying to halt or roll back workers' rights and protections. Ford and Kenney provide recent concrete examples.
Moreover, Unifor represents about 315,000 workers across multiple sectors. So while their 12,000 media members may not like the position they're taking in this election, doesn't Unifor have a responsibility to represent their other 303,000 members?
This brings me to my next point. If journalists feel the need to speak out now to state categorically that their union's position against the CPC is jeopardizing their credibility, why didn't they also speak out when their ownership position itself against the Liberals?
Personally, I'm developing quite a bit of distrust towards media that uses misleading headlines like this
Or inflammatory language without context
And then we have things like *this*
As I said earlier in this thread, I truly believe that media has an important role and I understand why they would want call out their union for playing partisan politics BUT .... where's the balance? Context matters & in many ways, journas have tarnished their own reputations.

I am so fucking sick of every conservative politician & every conservative pundit who got the message to “make this Trudeau’s problem”! We all need a bullshit radar because this is full on #Gaslighting
Does this absolve the Liberal govt from responsibility for that has happened? No! They clearly underestimated the risk & overestimated provincial & municipal capabilities to deal with the situation.
But at the end of the day, we need to acknowledge that this was not (is not) ending without federal intervention.
I have no doubt that, like so many, the pandemic was causing a great deal of stress and aggravating mental health issues. #thread#cdnpoli#cdnmedia#RideauHall
But we all need to be clear that, there is NO EXCUSE or rational explanation for what he did - or attempted to do. #cdnpoli#cdnmedia#RideauHall
I’m also puzzled by some of the arguments about financial hardship. He may very well have faced financial hardship - many of us do - but consider what we know. #thread#cdnpoli#cdnmedia#RideauHall
In 2015, @CPC_HQ spent a lot of time & $$ telling us Trudeau was #JustNotReady even tho Trudeau was world traveled, grew up steeped in politics, had 2 university degrees, had worked various jobs, including a few yrs as a teacher, & had been an MP for 7 yrs.
This year, @CPC_HQ spent a lot of time & $$ telling us Trudeau is #NotAsAdvertised even tho their own leader spent the last 15 yrs lying about his university degree, his credentials as an insurance "broker" & his work experience prior to politics. And he hid his US citizenship.
Anyone else sensing a trend here?
So my Q is - Why would anyone give their vote to a guy who actively contributed to the above personal attacks while he, himself: took 8 yrs to acquire a BA; has repeatedly lied about his own credentials while engaging in the above attacks;
