3) Martin Lopez - Opeth, Currently Soen.

I don't know how he does it, but Lopez infuses feeling and subtlety that should not be available to a drummer.

4) Martin Axenrot - Opeth

I wanted to dislike him. But somehow, he just kept getting better and better.

Heresy: Might be better than Lopez.

5) Antonio Sanchez - Pat Metheny

Yeah. I've mentioned him previously.

He's that good.

6) Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater - now solo projects.

Postscript: My buddy bought a drum kit off Portnoy 20 years ago based on my advice.

Mike is the best.

7) Chris Quirarte - Redemption

His short staccato bursts are almost impossible to replicate.

Don't believe me? Try to follow him. Impossible.

8) Nico McBrain - Iron Maiden

Because Iron Maiden is so much better than you think.

Heavy Metal old school rep. True.

Brilliant musicians. Also true.

I will hear no dissension.

9) Neil Peart.

Please don't argue.

No one has done more to advance the current state of drumming than Neil.

He remains a god.
