1. "Fräulein Sweetheart" from Young Romance #4 (March 1948) by Joe Simon & Jack. A very unexpected romance comic about a card-carrying Nazi who falls in love with an American soldier in occupied Germany.
2. The romance in this story goes awry because the narrator remains committed to German world domination.
3. Eventually the narrator comes to see the errors of her ways and foils a Nazi plot but the ending is bittersweet since she's not reunited with her American lover.
4. Anyways, Simon & Kirby romance comics (the pioneers of the genre). are very unusual -- very heavily freighted with politics and social issues (usually class & discrimination). A good collection here: fantagraphics.com/flog/young-rom…

1. I have to say, I thought I'd never want to read another word on Scorsese & Marvel movies. I was wrong. This Scorsese op ed is excellent. nytimes.com/2019/11/04/opi…
2. Scorsese's real concern (obvious from his original remarks) wasn't about Marvel movies but about the diminishing theatrical spaces for non-franchise movies. That's a legitimate concern -- one that you don't have to dislike Marvel movies (or like Scorsese movies) to share
3. In terms of the dilemma of directors like Scorsese, Coppola, Bill Forsyth etc. in the age of franchise, it strangely mirrors the experience of artists like Don Heck (1929-1995) & Gene Colon (1926-2011) in the comic book industry as superheroes came to dominate.

1. Sanders and Warren are going to face a lot of headwind going forward, and one major source will be Nancy Pelosi.
2. Pelosi's interview with Bloomberg News was a pretty explicit shot-across-the-bow, letting Democrats know she'll stand in the way of a Green New Deal, Medicare for All & really any expansive policy commitments.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship folks.
Trump is a historically unpopular president. He polls at 40% but only half that strongly support him. The vast majority hate him or are defending him only out of partisan reflexiveness.
The only places Trump is not likely to get booed at are his own rallies & maybe white evangelical churches. Wide swaths of the population see him as toxic.
I'm puzzled that people are saying Trump got booed "even" at a MMA event. The fans of MMA are young & diverse -- it's a naturally anti-Trump crowd.

...Pourtant il existe un consensus scientifique indiquant qu'il n'y a pas d'effets sanitaires des ondes EM des antennes sur les hommes et les animaux. Qu'importe. Des géobiologues et leurs baguettes magiques viennent confirmer les croyances des éleveurs. Trop d'ondes !!!...

Estoy volviendo a ver la serie animada de Spider-Man de los 90 para compararla con los cómics. ¿Qué sagas y personajes se adaptaron de sus páginas y cuáles eran originales? Ya os adelanto que, a pesar de la censura, es una adaptación excelente.
Antes de ir a las comparaciones con el cómic, comentar que la censura era brutal, por eso hubo que meter muchos cambios que iré comentando. El principal: no se podía mencionar la palabra muerte, ni asesinato ni cosas por el estilo. Además, las armas debían disparar lásers.
A pesar de estos cortapisas la serie estaba a salvo gracias a la labor de sus productores: el mismísimo Stan Lee y Avi Arad, que estuvo al frente de Marvel Toys y, en ese momento, de la compañía al completo. Stan lee lo supervisó todo para asegurar una buena adaptación.
