I’m am shocked/notshocked that so many people are rising up in anger over the notion that there should not be billionaires. They all seem to be deeply offended that I want to take away their right to a living. 1
So, I did a little back-of-the-envelope calculating and here’s my proposal: Nobody should have a net worth greater than one millionth of the US annual GDP. 2
The current US GDP is at 20.5 trillion dollars, so one millionth of that is 20.5 million dollars. That should be enough for anyone. What the hell, lets add another zero just to be generous: set the upper limit at 205 million dollars. 3
I’m just spitballing here, but with two hundred million you can be rich and famous and throw your money around and still find it hard to purchase entire governments or subvert entire industries. 4
On the other hand, with that kind of folding money you can do one hell of a lot of good collectively, by working with other rich folks. Just a crazy Monday morning thought. 5
