DID YOU KNOW that to celebrate Kaiji reaching 500 chapters, Young Magazine had a bunch of mangaka draw Kaiji to celebrate?

That included one drawn by CLAMP. CLAMP loves Kaiji!! (Which, if you're familiar with CLAMP's works and Kaiji....that isn't a big surprise. 😂) CLAMP's drawing of Kaiji holding a black Mokona.

There's a thread going around about how being an anime fan was "better" in the time when we got maybe 20 anime VHS released a year officially & we had to find fansubs for anything else...and as someone who lived through those times, I'm here to tell you: that's a load of BS.
Sure, I often talk about being nostalgic (lol) for anime from that era, but MAN O MAN I sure don't miss having to send money to complete strangers via snail mail & pray that a. it doesn't get lost and b. the person isn't a scammer who'll just take my money & run.
I also don't miss having to be polite to creeps & jerks just because they're the only local people who also like anime. And the gatekeepy folks that would tell me my taste in everything sucked, I wasn't a "true otaku" for whatever arbitrary reasons they invented, etc etc.

In extremely normal morning thoughts, I was wondering why the shooting in Columbine has left such an immense cultural footprint when the one in Jonesboro has not. And then I looked up the case again and learned that one of the attackers died in a car crash this summer.
Do y’all remember the Jonesboro incident? That one fucks me up more than Columbine. Two young boys gathered a bunch of guns in the woods outside the school. One went in and pulled the fire alarm and ran to where the guns were. As students and teachers filed out, they opened fire.
In the chaos, many people thought it was all an elaborate drill. It was instead an ambush.

One thing I think folks are missing in the 2020 conversation right now is what forces are shaping the primary. I am an activist, I am interested in moving candidates around a specific agenda. There is a reason diversity + inclusion are the entry point for this. (1/?)
Why do Democrats want to build a movement, as @AsteadWesley writes about today in NYT? Because that is where the winning base of the Democratic party is. Presidential candidates want to engage that base because they want their votes. nytimes.com/2019/03/18/us/…
Candidates want to co-opt the language and tactics of movement because that is where the wins have been for the last several years. The hottest issues, the hottest candidates, the most grassroots energy exist in movement on the Left, not in the Party apparatus itself.
