Oh, hey, that obviously false story that rocketed around yesterday (and which AILA, ACLU, and numerous journalists shared) that the U.S. has 100 THOUSAND children in detention was, y'know, obviously false.

(The actual number is somewhere around 1,500 at DHS and 5,000 at HHS.)
Here's the updated story. The guy who yesterday said " Wehave more than — still more than — 100,000 children in migration-related detention in the United States of America" clarifies that this number represents the *cumulative* number that passed through U.S. custody in 2015.
Here's the link to the "clarified" story on U.S. immigration-related detention according to the UN special expert on child liberty. Heh.

The claim that the U.S. had 100K children in custody at any one point doesn't pass the smell test. DHS and HHS don't have that detention capacity *in total* much less just for kids.

Maybe they were keeping these kids in the basement at Comet Pizza, eh eh?
But, hey, pay for journalism, folks. It's important.
