Reminder that the little things in life are often tougher on others than they are on you 1/x
As I was leaving my house this morning, there were three women standing across the street outside a townhouse looking confused. They had been given the wrong address for a charity that assists families with re-entry after incarceration. 2/x
Actually, they'd been given the right street address, but the wrong quadrant of the city (we have NE, NW, SE and SW in DC). As they live at a halfway house and have short windows where they can be out and about, time is of the essence for them. 3/x
They were about a mile away from where they needed to be, and they didn't have cash or a rideshare app. They thought they were going to have to walk it, and one of the women had a significant medical issue related to her breathing. 4/x
Without hesitation, one of the guys in my neighborhood pulled out his phone and called them a car. They looked like he had just bought them each a Mercedes-Benz. It was such a small kindness, such a very small kindness. 5/x
But more important, the episode was a reminder of how difficult even the most simple things can be — just getting to the right place to do the right thing — as folks are trying to get their lives back in order and re-enter society. 6/6
