@theNewsfox @MikeH_PR What I'm talking about is the activity of managing multiple objectives and numerous (sometimes apparently contradictory) tactics in a situation where it's not obvious what relates to what else, how.
@theNewsfox @MikeH_PR I've studied "Operational Art", which has roots in Russian military and intelligence theory - and I see its patterns in Cummings's methods. It's about coping with and managing the confusing, complex linkages in modern conflict. In a sense, it sees the battlefield as an ecology.
@theNewsfox @MikeH_PR In contrast, Corbyn's vision was (admirably) all about coherence, simplicity and structure.

My point is that these recent (100 year old) methods of effecting change (for example, winning a war) truly own complexity & its attendant confusion, via continuous learning & adaptation.
@theNewsfox @MikeH_PR One of the apparently valued characteristics of socialism is a refusal to adapt. Principals are defined, strategies are adopted, and it can be almost impossible to revisit or adjust them. We're seeing this now with some Momentum discussion: "What we need now is more of the same!"
@theNewsfox @MikeH_PR In fact, even the name "Momentum" suggests a resistance to manoeuvre.

Of course, the true horror of Operational Art is that it has no set, overriding principle, other than to win. It's all about opening up options, rather than closing them down.

Yet, can the left learn from it?
