Como chefe da Seção de Passaportes do consulado em Hamburgo, na Alemanha, Aracy Guimarães Rosa conseguiu liberar vistos de judeus para o Brasil durante a Segunda Guerra.

Apelidada de "O Anjo de Hamburgo", ela foi reconhecida em vida
pelo Yad Vashem, em Jerusalém. Em 8 de julho de 1982, teve seu nome incluído no Jardim dos Justos, honraria que coube a apenas mais um brasileiro, o diplomata Luiz Martins de Souza Dantas (1876-1954).
Agora, Aracy ganha mais uma homenagem: ela passou a estampar um
selo dos Correios. É a sexta personalidade da série Mulheres Brasileiras que Fizeram História, que já homenageou, entre outra, a farmacêutica e ativista Maria da Penha e a escritora Maria de Jesus (1914-1977).
