The list can be found in Ibn Shahr Ashoub's Mathalib Al-Nawasib 1/179. Naturally, he wasn't expecting Sunnis to come across this book that was written in the 6th century AH.

Lectures about the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Makkah often include that he was received by the people of Madinah singing طلع البدر علينا (The full moon rose upon us from Thaniyat Al-Wada').

However, there is a problem with this narrative...
Well, the very first verse is quite problematic itself since Thaniyat Al-Wada' is located on the Eastern part of Sal' mountain, which is on the North Western side of Madinah.

Remember, Makkah is towards the South.
With that in mind, why would the Prophet (peace be upon him), who came from Makkah, go all the way around the Sal' mountain to enter Madinah, through Thaniyat Al-Wada'?

Historians rejected this notion due to this view alone.

The origin of this view revolves around the hadith of Abi Qatada below.

In this thread, we will be examining why this hadith is in fact a weak narration and should not be relied upon.
So, who is Abu Qatada in the first place?

Well, the narration clearly states that this is Abu Qatada Al-Ansari, the noble companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

However, there is strong evidence to indicate that this is not the case.
Firstly, Al-Bukhari 5/198, states in the biography of his student Abdullah bin Ma'bad: It is not known that he heard from Abi Qatada.

This indicates that Al-Bukhari weakens this report due to a disconnection.

Whoever looks into early works that include fatwas of Sahaba will notice that there are religious rulings that have pretty much died out.

We have this general assumption that rulings that died out are false.

This is an incorrect assumption.
Let me elaborate with an example.

Observe the image below. Hypothetically, three companions have differed in a religious ruling.

The views of Ibn Omar and Ibn Mas'ud were endorsed by the four madhhabs. The view of Ibn Abbas was endorsed by a dead madhhab(s).
Now, it wouldn't matter how strong Ibn Abbas' view was. It also wouldn't matter how many people followed it.

Politics and other factors played a role in the survival of the the view of Ibn Omar and Ibn Mas'ud.
