Whoever looks into early works that include fatwas of Sahaba will notice that there are religious rulings that have pretty much died out.
We have this general assumption that rulings that died out are false.
This is an incorrect assumption.
Politics and other factors played a role in the survival of the the view of Ibn Omar and Ibn Mas'ud.

Many lessons come to mind. Perhaps the most important ones are that:
- The strength of an opinion is not proven by the number of those that adhere to it.
- The truth is NOT exclusive to the four madhhabs.
- Dead views can be correct.
