A man took shelter in the outdoor lobby of my condo building over night. I asked him what he needed. He said no one has ever asked him that. I suggested perhaps warm thermal socks and raided hubby’s new sock part of the drawer to bring him two pairs. Turns out, he had on...
... thin little tennis socks. I offered to call Alpha House DOAP team and he said no, as he was hoping to meet a friend. There was an Amazon package sitting there for the taking and he didn’t touch it. Two lessons from my exchange:
1. Don’t make assumptions about people down on their luck. He could have easily taken that package and didn’t. 2. Ask people what they need. It was startling that no one had ever asked him that. Every human should be asked what they need. Every single one of us.
Ok, I didn’t mean to make that about me, but him!
