(1/n) Hi I am Dibya-currently an Assistant Professor in Communication at @IIM_I . I am joined by my colleague Nirmala, Associate Professor in the Humanities and Social Sciences at @IITIOfficial . We, on behalf of @dh_dharti , are delighted to have you here. #DHARTITwitterConf
@IIM_I @IITIOfficial @dh_dharti (2/n) Many thanks to @briancroxall and @DianeJakacki for their fantastic keynote. We have many (and importantly) diverse voices and projects joining us all through the day. #DHARTITwitterConf
@IIM_I @IITIOfficial @dh_dharti @briancroxall @DianeJakacki (3/n) In this brief presentation we attempt a genealogy of DHARTI including an origin story, our understanding of Indian DH research, teaching and practice as well as our hopes for the role of DHARTI in facilitating a framework for decolonized DH. #DHARTITwitterConf
@IIM_I @IITIOfficial @dh_dharti @briancroxall @DianeJakacki (4/n) Conversations amongst some stakeholders committed to decolonized DH frameworks began in 2016: solidified the need for an Indian DH Collective.The dialogue highlighted how DH in India must emerge from diverse intersectional and institutional identities.#DHARTITwitterConf
@IIM_I @IITIOfficial @dh_dharti @briancroxall @DianeJakacki (5/n) While recognizing existing DH work in India, we realized the lack of a sustained national conversation around DH. Thus the Digital Humanities Alliance of India (DHAI) was founded in late 2017 and first DHAI conference was planned to be held in June 2018.#DHARTITwitterConf Image
@IIM_I @IITIOfficial @dh_dharti @briancroxall @DianeJakacki (6/n) The #DHAI2018 Conference held @IIM_I , in collaboration with @IITIOfficial , was attended by over 50 delegates from 16 Indian states and 5 countries. Reified our belief that #digitalhumanities conversations in/about India needed to be organized. #DHARTITwitterConf ImageImageImage
@IIM_I @IITIOfficial @dh_dharti @briancroxall @DianeJakacki (7/n) Two key takeaways from the conference:
1. projects and scholars were (often) not self identifying with the moniker of DH. Primarily due to the lack of institutional and academic currency for DH in India.
2. DH pedagogy and research are entwined in India #DHARTITwitterConf
