This "floodgates" argument makes very little sense. If a majority of senators wants to subpoena only John Bolton, they can. If they want to subpoena more witnesses they can do that too. But it's up to them.

The idea, I guess, is that the Senate would "have to" give in to Trump's demands on some witnesses if they call Bolton. But they wouldn't have to. Again, it's up to them.
The "if we call Bolton, it would open to floodgates to witnesses" argument is similar to the "if we call Bolton, Trump will sue and drag things out in court forever" argument.

Both are tempting excuses for GOP senators who want to end things, but neither make much sense.
More of the same here. This is basically the White House threatening to shoot itself in the foot. Not a credible threat.

Some Iowa rules weirdness:

In a change this year, after the first round of voting in a precinct, supporters of any candidate who is viable (which in most precincts means hitting 15% support) will be locked in, and unable to realign.
This creates odd dynamics. For example, if your candidate is at 15% after the first tally, you’re stuck with someone who could be a weak 4th place finisher.

But if your candidate is at 14%, you and their other supporters are free to realign and perhaps swing the outcome
Strategically, the play for people who are flexible and want to influence the outcome might be to go uncommitted on the first ballot.

But there’s a catch: if “uncommitted” hits 15% in a precinct, “uncommitted” becomes viable and you're locked in there!

Part of my job is to provide a space within my classes that accommodate a wide array of views - my only exception is that there are NO "alternate" views on rape or sexual assault/abuse {of any kind}.
This means I many times have to be patient with views that internally kill me.
{Note: I am talking of "views". I continue to insist in the words of Condoleeza Rice that everyone is entitled to their opinion, just NOT their uninformed opinion.

And in terms of praxis, I do not tolerate violence, disrespect, insults, or abuse within my classes}.
So it is with extreme interest that I found myself in a male-only class on culture and music, and in discussing current Gengeton music, the subject of "boy-child" came up, with its usual cyprianesque leanings that eventually stood on 2 pillars: "African Culture" and "The Bible".

Kepa enjoyed a fairly competent bedding-in season at Chelsea, thriving in Sarri's passing set-up. In the league alone Kepa conceded 39 goals and kept 14 clean sheets, helping Chelsea to finish the campaign with the third-best defence in the division.
I've always had this feeling the fanbase developed a soft spot for Kepa in an instant, as bitterness and anger aimed at Courtois turned into unconditional love for a young bloke with a heavy burden on his shoulders.

Taking Bill Clinton’s cynical attack on Sister Souljah as a model of political engagement is already deeply problematic. Then saying that Democrats “flubbed” their opportunity to replicate it by refusing to accept conservative talking points is another level of bad analysis. 1/

I understand the logic behind “get the federal government out of transit” but simply ending federal transit funding — without any other changes — would make US transit worse.
Yes, there have been some bad projects built from New Starts/Small Starts/Core Capacity funding, but there have been many good ones as well — Seattle, the Twin Cities, Chicago modernization, etc.
FTA funds also pay for a lot of smaller projects like new buses, transit centers, and bus operating facilities across the country, in big cities and small ones.

in re this account have been thinking a bit about what people who use the word 'Stalinism' to mean everything between approx 1927 to 1991 mean by it and why they use it, so here is a Festive Stalinism Thread
Trotskyists tend to use this term to mean 'the lot', much more than historians or pretty much anyone else except the right within Eastern Europe. Eg, this was Militant's response to Gorbachev
this is odd because much of what they call 'Stalinism' is basically just 'Bolshevism', or at least Bolshevism from approx 1921 - one party state, censorship, recourse to terror and political trials, no freedom of assembly, neutering of working class organisations etc etc
