Islam hates idleness and that's why most of the jurist will tell you idleness is totally haram. When Abdul Rahmān bn Auf migrated to Madinah he came without nothing, and he attached brother from ansar gave him a choice to choose from his homes, wives and wealth, he declined
His statement was: show me the road to the market.

He later became one of the wealthiest Muslims of his time during the time of the prophet SAW.

Again, Allah has stated in suratul Juma'ah:

فإذا قضيت الصلاة فانتشروا فى الأرض وابتغوا من فضل الله.
And when prayers are done spread on the surface of the earth and seek from Allah's bounty/blessings.

He said in suratu Taha:

إن لك ألا تجوع فيها ولا تعرى وأنك لا تظأ فيها ولا تضحى
That surely you are not to go hungry on earth, and no thirst shall bequeath you and no victimize
Sorry not earth *paradise
Scholars make illustrations to that particular verse as to the obligatory act for every capable Muslim to try and fend for himself, and there are hadiths that backed it up, like:

المؤمن القوي خير وأحب إلى الله من المؤمن الضعيف وفى كل خير...

A strong and capable believer is
Better and most lovely to Allah than a weak one, but they both have advantages.

And another hadith that says::
ﺣﺪﻳﺚ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫﺮﻳﺮﺓ ، ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﻨﺒﻲ ﷺ ﻗﺎﻝ: «ﺍﻟﻴﺪ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻴﺎ ﺧﻴﺮ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻴﺪ ﺍﻟﺴﻔﻠﻰ، ﻭﺍﺑﺪﺃ ﺑﻤﻦ
ﺗﻌﻮﻝ، ﻭﺧﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﺼﺪﻗﺔ
ﻣﺎ ﻛﺎﻥ ﻋﻦ ﻇﻬﺮ ﻏﻨﻰ، ﻭﻣﻦ ﻳﺴﺘﻌﻔﻒ ﻳﻌﻔﻪ
ﺍﻟﻠﻪ، ﻭﻣﻦ ﻳﺴﺘﻐﻦ ﻳﻐﻨﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ » ، ﺭﻭﺍﻩ ﺍﻟﺒﺨﺎﺭﻱ
Abu hurairah reports that the prophet said:
The hand at the top (giver) is better than the hand at the bottom (receiver), but charity begins
*at home. The best of charity is from essence fund, and whoever is abstinence from asking Allah will preserve him, whoever seek wealth from Allah alone He will surely enrich him.
There are whole lot to show for this, but similarly, @adamugarba I want you to knwo that the poor also have their advantage in Islam and some scholars will even argue they have the higher statue in Islam than the rich, but I disagree with them for reasons I will say at the end
The rich were mentioned in the Qur'an , see Q2 vs 273
للفقراء الذين أحصروا فى سبيل الله

And another one Q59 vs 8

,للفقراء المهاجرين...

Checking the verses might make you to have a rethink...

Secondly to further established the a lot of sahaba were poor during their lifetime
See the hadith of Abu Zarr Al-gifāriyy where he narrates that: some set among the less privilege among the sahaba went to the prophet and said: the rich among us have eaten up all the rewards, they pray as we do, fast as we do and even give charity from their extra wealth
The prophet said to them: Has Allah not bestowed you what to do charity with it? For every Allahu Akbar you say you have d reward of charity, same with Alhamdulillah, Lailaha illa Allah, enjoining to good, preventing from evil, and even mating with your wife.....Muslim relates
So the poor has their great status, though there are hadiths stating the prophet said (I am with the poor) I don't correlate with the authenticity but the prophet do visit (Ahlul suffah) situated at the backside of his mosque often, and they were predominantly poor
Lastly, why I believe a righteous rich Muslim is better than a righteous poor one is what Allah has said Himself in suratu Nisa vs 95

That the idle without reasonable excuse believer is not equal in grade to the one who strive in the cause of Allah with his (wealth) and self
Allah prefers the latter who spend and uses self in His cause ahead of the former in grades, though Allah promised the both Al-husnah (paradise), but Allah prefers the latter (a wealthy mujahid) with a greater reward....

So its clear..
A Muslim should strive to earn his living in a legal means but if after striving Allah didn't decree it for him till he dies it shouldn't be a reason to malign such Muslim, as Allah knows best..

So @adamugarba please save urself and @Twitter the avoidable tweets.
Nobody wish to be poor

End
*the poor
