Fantastically well-observed rumination on the ubiquity (and somewhat deadening indistinguishability) of the millennial aesthetic. I’m just slightly out of the target demo, so its omnipresence always feels like a reminder & reification of who The Target Audience is — not me.

This may be particularly acute being in NYC. Nearly every subway car has an ad for a startup offering a product with the same aesthetic and same knowing tone of voice. It’s so consistent there’s a @Glitch app about it:
The thing I find myself craving amidst the endless monotony of the Instagram flat lay look are things that are actually irregular & odd (not the studied “messiness” of MillAes) and that indicate a human was involved in creation, rather than all traces of personality being erased.
