Hello. Did somebody say they needed a heartwarming story from the coronavirus era? Okay, fine.

Let me start by saying that I am not a particularly melodramatic guy, but I just don’t know how to tell this story without turning to pure mush. (1/11)

For those who saw my post the other day… on Wednesday I went out for a walk in Domino Park after several days of feeling stir crazy and lonesome in my apt — in addition to everything going on, it’s been a rough few months for me personally. I HAD A TOUGH BREAKUP OKAY? (2/11)

I sat down on the grass and stared out at the water. A curious pup wandered over and settled on my lap, and nuzzled its face into mine. Immediately I felt a surge of warmth. I jokingly said to the owner, “I’ll take her off your hands.” (3/11)

The ‘owner,' Mona, laughed, and then told me that she was actually a foster mom, that the dog MAY be going up for adoption in just a few days. We talked for awhile and then exchanged info. (4/11)

Over the coming days, the more we talked, the more it became clear that Mona was leaning towards keeping her. The dog was just too special, she couldn’t give her up. I was crushed, but I’d also become dog-crazy, so I started submitting applications to every shelter in town.(5/11)

But still, things are crazy at shelters right now and demand is high, I wasn’t hearing back.

Last night out of the blue Mona texts me to say that it turns out the dog has a sister, and that she just went up for adoption. (6/11)

She made some calls for me, my application was fast tracked, and by this morning I’d arranged a meet & greet with the sister for 1pm in Staten Island — my parents even drove their car into Brooklyn so I could borrow it to make the trip. (7/11)

I cleaned my apartment and counted down the minutes. Truthfully, I was incredibly nervous — what if I just didn’t feel the same connection…? Two dogs from the same litter can be quite different.

Okay, literally, as I am preparing to walk out the door, Mona calls me. (8/11)

She hasn’t been able to sleep, this thing has kept on nagging at her since we met, since her foster dog wandered over to me at the park: maybe the dog and me were meant to be after all. And this morning, when she woke up, it was all very clear to her. (9/11)

Trust me when I say I'm not kidding: I cried like a baby.

One hour later I met Mona by the same park where we'd first bumped into each other, and she handed me the leash. And now we're home.

Meet Dorothy, the sweetest, most beautiful puppy I've ever met, my new love.(10/11)

Alright, one more purely earnest tweet before a sign off for a bit. I cannot even begin to describe how much this dog has changed my life in the <24 hours since I adopted her. Suddenly there is so much more joy, love, and hopefulness. Might I suggest you look into doing the same?

Sorry I lied, one more. I’m in the kitchen cooking and Dorothy’s just gazing over at me like a total sweetie.

It’s such an exciting few days with Dorothy coming into my life, but I need to try to get back to some of my old routines. Now to set down my mat and do some yoga
