TIL:

There is a human pathogen named
Mycobacterium smegmatis.

It has a series of small _most likely not meaningful_ nucleotide sequences from its ribosomal RNA that show as 100% identity matches with part of an insertion in the SCoV2 genome. (+Human rRNA, tuberc, P. aerug).
If you care about the query parameters,
"CTCCTCGGCGGGCACGTAG" (furin-sensitive insertion at S1/S2 cleavage site, that is known to increase virulence; absent from SARS)
Blastn against PDB nucleotide database.
Again, I'd assume this is not relevant in any way....

Although if it were a HoFBWD behind this, there would be some irony in using something isolated from smegma to destroy the world order.

Or maybe it would be more anti-irony. 🤷‍♀️
