A world record-breaking 261 tomato cultivars were exhibited at @NBGGlasnevin #TTTomFest19! The human race eats ½ its weight in #tomatoes annually. An important crop economically - preserving their valuable #genetic #diversity & #seed #democracy is vital to #future #foodsecurity🍅
1.This thread is about cordon or upright #tomato cultivars. The stunning colour of 'Indigo Rose' gave me the inspiration for the 1st #TotallyTerrificTomatoFestival in 2012. The first naturally-bred, high-anthocyanin tomato, #seed only became available to #gardeners in early 2012>
2.Rosada. The most delicious, disease-resistant, easy and productive variety of cherry/plum I've ever grown. Often bears 70 fruits on long trusses. No longer available as delisted by the politically powerful and greedy #Big4 #seed corporations when they couldn't buy the #patent!>

As I keep getting angry message claiming this was deliberately quoted out-of-context (which it was not; I forgot what I thought, but I guess I just found Dr. Drosten's blunt #hyperbole mildly-interesting), I will now present an extra-extensive superset, longer towards BOTH ends.
[Dr. Drosten:] "We don't expect a vaccine before the #US, uh, #elections. Uhm, we have―
[Dr. Barker:] *laughs*
[Dr. Condit:] *laughs*
[Dr. Racaniello:] *grimaces*
[Dr. Drosten:] *laughs* "Well, we expect a #vaccine before the next GERMAN electionswhich (will be autumn next year)>

[Dr. Condit:] "So, I'm curious about the #NBA-vaccine. If you know any details: is it just ›spike‹, or does it have other antigens in it as well?
[Dr. Drosten:] "No, spike. This is a spike-based vaccine."

#SaudiArabia FM Prince Faisal bin Farhan has been quite busy these days! Today in #Italy, right after #Cyprus and, before, a North Africa tour. On geopolitics, Riyadh and Rome have two major things to talk about: #Libya and #EastMed. Both have to do with #Turkey.
#Italy and #SaudiArabia do not traditionally have an in-depth, serious geopolitical engagement. This is for many reasons, many of which are common to other continental #Europe-an countries, excluding #France. I have analysed those in my @ECFRMena paper:…
This same paper is part of a wider effort, done within @ECFRMena, to provide ideas to the #EU and #Europe-an countries on how to engage geopolitically w/#GCC monarchies, who are now impactful players in the entire #MENA, including the #Mediterranean.…

Why mosquitos bite you, and more importantly, how to make the little demons LEAVE US ALONE  🦟

{A science and fact-filled thread on mosquitos, repellants, what works and what doesn't}

#MosquitoSeason #Summer #SummerHeat #SummerHolidays #COVID_19
First, just to clarify, there is no one mosquito.

there are more than 3500 species categorized into 112 genera that fall under the moniker of mosquito.

Canada is home to ~82 species of mosquitos, some of which are zoophilic (animal-feeding) others anthropophilic (human-feeding)
Fun fact: we’re typically taught to remove standing water from our property & avoid boggy or marshy areas (good luck in Ontario) to avoid mosquitos, jokes on us because some species of these bugs don’t exclusively lay their eggs in water.

* And yes, before the inevitable "it's not the astrological start of summer" people pipe up, I know, it's only the start of the meteorological summer, but I don't care either way - it's just an excuse to tweet a cool Wicker Man GIF...
* And yes, I can see the typo as well - I've been using this grammar-checking plug-in which keeps changing words randomly. It has now been uninstalled....

There's been a story in a UK tabloid (that I won't name), and @BBCRadio4 of all places; that #rocket #salad causes #cancer due to high levels of #nitrates in the leaves. Here's my take, and what's wrong with the thinking behind it.

A thread.

It's true, #rocket #leaves are hyperaccumulators of #nitrates ; this isn't anything new. It's been known for a long time. Other crops with high nitrate content include #spinach and #watercress

Nitrate content varies according to where the #crop is grown, and is closely tied to the soil #plants are grown in, and the amount of #light they receive. Rocket leaves grown in #winter have higher nitrate content than those grown in #summer

There's a lot of attention around cases of flesh-eating bacteria some folks have unfortunately contracted while in #Florida. Dr. William Schaffner tells @CBSThisMorning that it's rare, but something to be aware of during #summer #vacations.…
Those cases are tragic, but they are rare, Schaffner says. He's been a leading source of helpful information about the condition, and tips on how to stay safe. Here's another, which appeared in @Healthline recently.…
Some things to watch out for if you've been swimming in the ocean:

1. Fever.
2. Intense pain around cuts or scrapes.
3. Rapid swelling around wounds.

Seek medical help if you're concerned. Washing well after you swim in the ocean is a helpful way to reduce the risk.

It’s #Monday, I’m boozing it up at a 4 seat bar, the #barkeep is a long pourer, and I’m all fucking set if I get something stuck between my teeth.👇🙃 #RandomThoughts #drinking #OutAndAbout
Shooting the shit with a friend, she’s proud to be doing well with her plants - unusual for her.

The key was a #video explaining the benefits of pruning.

She needs REASONS. She got them.

Apparently, pruning in a particular manner stimulates growth hormones.
Of course, this led to me initiating a discussion about the #movie I just watched on Hulu, called “The German Doctor.”

The main character was Josef Mengele. #ThisHappened

People, this is why I’m known in my circles as “The Black Hole Of Conversation.” SMTH

With #summer fast approaching we want to remind people to be on the look-out for toxin-producing cyanobacterial (harmful algal) blooms when visiting our beautiful lakes, rivers and reservoirs: #Oregon
Because cyanobacteria are naturally occurring, blooms can form in any water body. Many are harmless, but under the right conditions—when weather, sunlight, water temperature, nutrients and water chemistry are ideal—they can produce cyanotoxins that make people & animals sick.
Since only a fraction of #Oregon’s fresh waters are sampled, we recommend staying out of the water if it looks foamy, scummy, thick like paint and pea-green, blue-green or brownish-red in color. When in doubt, just stay out. #SummerSafety

Hello, everyone! Let's start our #thread on #child #entrepreneurs, both in #Malaysia and abroad.

We'll talk about the success stories as well as how to foster their development 😊 Let's go! Feel free to add on to the thread with your own opinion and sharing.
Latest in Malaysia is the story of Ferris. Ferris merupakan usahawan cilik yang terpengaruh secara positif dengan siri Upin dan Ipin! It's good to see how entrepreneurship in an animated series can piqued children and their interest in entrepreneurship!

If you ask if there are more of such stories in #Malaysia, there are!

11 y.o Elisa Ahmad Sayuti and her friends got inspired by both their participation in Kelab Usahawan Cilik as well as seeing their parents who are also #entrepreneurs!…

Come back to this place again... Somehow this city feels like a home

Kampung Malabar to Penang Street, Penang, Malaysia

Nasi Briyani, Kwey thiao (i don't remember how to spell it, hahahhaa😄😄), and my fave market snacks or traditional cakes... Somehow i couldn't remember where to buy the Nasi Kandar even though it is quite close to my hotel and I used to buy it in the same restaurant ImageImage
but i won't forget the direction to buy these cakes...

And those foods are so delicious.
I just simply love penang cuisine very much.

I hope I won't get fat
