PM thanks the public service who he says are working around the clock to get people the CERB. Yesterday 966,000 Canadians applied for the CERB.
PM is asked if Canada will need a minimum of 30,000 ventilators based on that production - PM says we should be prepared for worst case scenario, wanted as many as quickly as possible "we hope we won't need all those ventilators" notes other countries could use possible surplus
PM is asked if Parliament must reconvene to pass the wage subsidy. PM basically says yes.
PM is asked if Canada has full exemption on import restrictions or is the shipment with 3M a one off? PM responds govt will continue to highlight importance of critical medical supplies flowing across the border. So sounds like just 3M for now
Adding an earlier q I missed that pressed the PM the changing advice the govt has given to Canadians and decisions like when to close the border. PM responds essentially there is reflection but he is focused on now not previous decisions, said evolving situation
PM is asked about concern in indigenous communities given remoteness, lack of healthcare services and lack of housing. PM says govt says govt working with communities to provide them with as much support as possible - does not outline what that support is.
PM : Canada accepting mask donations from many companies (he was asked about masks donated from Huawei and potential release of Meng Wanzhou)/ Priority is getting equipment to frontline workers. PM accepting masks doesn't mean it will change govt position w any particular company
PM says the most serious outcome of Canadians not listening to public health recommendations to social and physical distance is more dead Canadians
PM says govt still trying to mount increased testing - including serological (SP?) testing for antibodies. Still grappling with both health and societal consequences of that
