What did @davidgraeber see? "The apparently endless campaign [for control of @UKLabour] by politicians like Margaret Hodge, Wes Streeting, & Tom Watson to weaponize antisemitism accusations against the [then] leadership of the Labour party...a form of antisemitism in itself."
We knew what kind of bullets Israeli forces were firing at men, women & children near the boundary fence of that open-air prison called #Gaza. We saw with disgust that some high-profile faces of Labour stood proud with the flag of the state 'that knew where each bullet landed':
In Aug 2019 @davidgraeber could see there were saboteurs working in the Labour Party against Jeremy Corbyn & his allies because they had been trying to bring democracy to its internal workings .100,000s of new members had joined. Yes. Branch meetings took on a new life. Yes.
That was anathema, as @davidgraeber said, for many MPs on the party's right. Tony Blair's MPs were entrenched, out of step with their Constituency Labour Parties & unlikely to be chosen as candidates in any system of mandatory reselection. Democracy! How to fight that & survive?
The answer, @davidgraeber explains (not quite in these words), was mud, any mud they could fling at Jeremy Corbyn. The mud that was useful was mud that others found easy to fling & was hard to wipe off. 'Antisemite!' An indelible stain.
"It is a campaign – which however it started, has been sustained primarily by people who are not themselves Jewish – so cynical and irresponsible that I genuinely believe it to be a form of antisemitism in itself." @davidgraeber goes on to explain how & why that campaign worked.

All of that was said, without (as far as we know) @davidgraeber having had sight of what on 11 Apr 2020 we were starting to get: high-resolution electron microscope images of the virus of hate that has used the Labour Party own structures against the will & aims of its members.
If we look back, as Eileanmor in @guardian does, with our new #coronavirus knowledge, with clear eyes unobstructed by tears of anger, of grief, or by the thick foggy smokescreen some would rather we see, we may understand how we came to the pit we are in: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
It's not as if nobody knew. In July 2020 @skwawkbox knew, had known since 2017. @thetimes knew. They told us. Labour's ‘moderates’ had hoped & worked for our party's defeat. They did badly quite well, but not so well that our loss was their absolute gain: skwawkbox.org/2018/07/14/tol…
Now we 'officially' know. @guardian has permitted itself to allow @johnmcdonnellMP to tell us: if this report holds, this has been "the most shocking act of treachery against the party, its members and our supporters in Labour’s century-long history.” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Those words of @johnmcdonnellMP should bite very hard. But it's sad, as @CraigMurrayOrg has observed. The LOTO & his supporters made a fatal mistake. They believed (against every fact) that the dirty old broom would play nice with the new, if the new broom tried to appease them.
