Garcia was apprehended in the US in December 2019 & indicted for taking bribes from El Chapo to protect the Sinaloa cartel.
Garcia Luna was protecting both the trafficking of drugs but the money laundering operations. Much of that money went through the United States, individuals had to be looking the other way in the US to not notice that.

Sounds like so many other cases, a bank ends up on the FBI's radar screen for illegal activity. Then a member of Trump Inc. shows up on their door step. Then a year or 2 later major crime organizations start getting disassembled...
El Chapo was pissed about this exposure of his network & started a feud with the Trumps! Even making threats toward @realDonaldTrump on Twitter! Reportedly putting out a hit on Trump during the 2016 election, guess El Chapo didn't want the Swamp drained!
I am quite certain El Chapo knew about DJT Jr.s exposure of money laundering networks used by his cartel to move cash around the world to buy friends who could protect him! Or used to protect him anyway!
Back to Mexico, 2 weeks ago it was revealed that more than 50 banks (some of them major players) are under investigation for laundering money connected to Mexico's former President Nieto's corruption. Both state oil company money & cartel money!
The corruption in Mexico also ties into the Odebrecht scandal, construction contractors who bought Swamp creatures all over the plant for contracts. Cases moved soon after former Mexican President Felipe Calderón left office.
Odebrecht ties into scandals all over the world, including the Dos Santos family in Angola who have been taken down recently. But dozens of foreign leaders have already been arrested or convicted for taking their bribes.
Most interestingly from a timing perspective, the Swampy Intel official/attorney who convinced Flynn he did not have to register under FARA when he took his Turkish contract, was on the board of Odebrecht.
Now, if you want to get more speculative, we could ask who those officials were that were protecting drug traffickers & transnational organized crime organizations.

I would not be surprised if Odebrecht felt it was essential to get this deal approved before Trump's appointees took over the US Department of Justice!

Burke used a team of 50 lawyers to review the Kavanaugh documents at the National Archives. The archives, Bush Presidential library & the Democrats were very worried about the propriety of this process.
