Chronic illness in #LymeDisease is shockingly common. This occurs more frequently if #Lyme is first diagnosed and treated at a later stage, but occurs at every stage of the disease.👇@Lymenews @BayAreaLyme @LymeChallenge @danaparish @ProjectLyme @lymelegacy @LymeOntario
Even for early #Lyme (erythema migrans stage illness), a study by Johns Hopkins demonstrated that about 40% did not get regain their health at 6 months after treatment.👇@LymeAlliance @Lyme_Connection @liv_lyme @UKLyme @AdvocatLyme @LymeDiseaseLDA pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23462300/
A study from Danbury Hospital in CT demonstrated that 61% of patients still had their initial Lyme symptoms 6-12 months after treatment for early Lyme, (erythema migrans stage illness). @LymeDiary @LymeDiseaseAus @LymeAction @LymeDiseaseNYC pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24970880/
A study of 118 patients with disseminated #Lyme demonstrated that about 52% of patients treated with oral doxycycline & 67% of patients treated with IV ceftriaxone were still symptomatic at 4 months after treatment.👇 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18567539/
Study of late stage #Lyme (defined here as 6 months neurologic symptoms before treatment) treated with a 4 week regimen containing oral doxycycline and/or IV ceftriaxone had zero cures--100% of patients were not free of all #Lyme symptoms at 12 months. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
Isolation of Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme bacteria) was demonstrated from patients despite 9 months of doxycycline.👇 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26673735/
Isolation of Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme bacteria) was demonstrated from a patient despite almost 2 years of both oral and IV antibiotics.👇pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8242938/
CDC isolated Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme bacteria) from a patient despite months of both oral & IV antibiotics. Ultimately, despite years of treatment, tissues were still positive for Lyme DNA by PCR post-mortem. Patient had died from Lyme when insurance denied her treatment.👇
The antibiotics that are purported to cure Lyme, don't even kill it in the test tube. @lymeforacure @BeatLymeDisease pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26014929/
"There is no convincing biologic evidence for the existence of symptomatic chronic B. burgdorferi infection among patients after receipt of recommended treatment regimens for Lyme disease."
Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). What??!! academic.oup.com/cid/article/43…
The Connecticut Attorney General office investigated IDSA. Here is an article which details what they found:👇
“The IDSA’s guidelines panel improperly ignored or minimized consideration of alternative medical opinion and evidence regarding Lyme disease, potentially raising serious questions about whether the recommendations reflected all relevant science.” mdedge.com/clinicianrevie…
"IDSA Lyme disease guideline development process revealed conflicts of interest among panel members...these included financial interests in “drug companies, Lyme disease diagnostic tests, patents, and consulting arrangements with insurance companies.”" mdedge.com/clinicianrevie…
I don't claim to know how to fix this situation, but in my opinion, a return to transparency & scientific integrity is way overdue. #Lyme+ patients (Lyme & associated vector-borne infections) have suffered for decades, ignored, & shamefully ridiculed by healthcare providers.
