🍴🥗🥪🍷🍺Bars & restaurants in many countries remain closed because of #Coronavirus.
There are plans across Europe, Middle East, Australasia to open soon.
Israel is among a few who have pressed ahead. Restaurants/bars allowed to open from yesterday so how’s it working? [thread]
There are strict rules for 🇮🇱restaurants.
❌Establishments with capacity or <100 can operate at 100%. >100 must operate at 85%.
❌1.5m distance between tables
❌🪑🧂must be fully disinfected between customers
❌Tables only set after customers seated
❌ Menus must be disposable
More 🇮🇱 restaurant / bar rules as it opens up
❌Antibacterial gel must be available
❌All 🥪🥗 on display must be covered
❌🤒 customer temperatures must be taken
❌ A staff member in every restaurant must be assigned as being responsible for monitoring regulations are followed
📸 I took these at a Jerusalem mall yesterday on day one of reopening. Social distancing? That are 1.5m apart but it’s hard to navigate and maintain distance.
🇮🇱 #Coronavirus infection rates are low now but small spike in past few days.
Between 25/5 and 26/5, 32 new people were diagnosed with #COVID__19: highest number in a week.
There is concern that complacency will set in.
There’s clearly a huge incentive for countries globally to get their #lockdown reductions right.
Infection rate spikes could massively knock confidence domestically & kill off any prospect of tourism / international business returning.
Gobal responsibility to get it right?
🥗🥪☕️I’ll be talking to @KayBurley about the challenges for restaurants and bars as they reopen. We’ll be joined by Itzik Kadosh who runs the long-established Kadosh Cafe in Jerusalem.
⬅️1.5-2m➡️ Local authorities here have allowed cafes and restaurants to use extra space outside on pavements and in some places parking spaces too, allowing them to spread out more. There is still a ❓ over how much these rules will be enforced though.
🤒 Temperatures are supposed to be taken before people enter restaurants
The signs here say that masks must be worn inside and people must maintain a 2 metre distance. The second of these directives isn’t being followed all that rigorously though....
My initial conclusion after 2 hours outside one cafe in Israel (where they were allowed to open from yesterday with specific guidelines) is that social distancing in a restaurant setting is very very hard.
After a couple of hours at a Jerusalem cafe, on just day two of their reopening, it looks to me like the drive to return to normal is overwhelming the necessity to adapt our behaviour. news.sky.com/story/coronavi…
🎥 Here’s what it looks like on day two of the reopening of cafes and restaurants in Israel - punters and businesses finding out that it’s challenging for everyone...
