You can flip this around and have QR codes at the door of busy establishments that can be scanned w/o app - open source & privacy-sensitive. Super simple to set up. Have never really understood why this hasn't gained traction. #COVID19 #SARSCoV2
Just to add a disclaimer - this is outside my field of expertise in detail - and I understand there are other similar products available. I can't weigh in on the pros & cons of these. However, I think the idea is intriguing, & would love to see it explored a bit more!
And another disclaimer - have heard this *has* gained traction in some places! I should have said - "hasn't gained traction in the West" (as far as I'm aware!) 😁

- Walk, cycle, drive there, no public transport 🚶🏾‍♂️🚴🏿‍♀️🚗
- Don't attend with *any* symptoms 🚫🤒🤧
- Wear a mask 😷 & change every 4 hrs 🕓
- Stay 2m apart always 🕺🏿↔️💃🏽
- Bring own water, signs etc - don't share! 🥤🚧
- Follow organiser guidance 📢🦺

Great question! Now, the actual naming of viruses & syndromes is above my pay grade 😉 (& much discussion about #COVID19 #SARSCoV2 & #hCoV19 has already happened!), but let's explore how SARS-1 & SARS-2 are related - & who else is in the family!

The 'CoV' in #SARSCoV2 stands for 'Coronavirus' - that's a big, diverse family of viruses. SARS-CoV-2 is a member of the 'Betacoronavirus' genera (group) (there's also Alpha- Gamma- & Delta- groups... very creative naming 😆)

Let's have a look at some of the group...

There are plenty of Betacoronaviruses, but we can focus on a few of the stars of the family. @trvrb put together a run showing MERS (Middle-eastern Respiratory Syndrome), SARS-1, SARS-2 & two seasonal coronaviruses, OC43 & HKU1 (they return each year)

I'm concerned our 'opening' guidelines & restrictions may not be considering airborne microdroplet transmission of #SARSCoV2 #COVID19 sufficiently. What does that mean?

We've seen a few studies now where groups of people in enclosed spaces with limited air circulation has led to outbreaks of infection.
Tracing exact contacts for the entire duration of the event is hard, but in most cases it seems unlikely all infected had direct contact.

To be clear from the start: I am *not* discounting other modes of transmission, like closer-contact droplets 💧 & fomites 🚪 (surface transmission). But I feel these are better understood & our strategies consider these heavily already.
