Last Saturday, @souvikdg and @hallidude chatted about #TechnicalSEO on the #ContentWeb series. Here’s a summary of takeaways: thread (1/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude Everyone wants to rank high on Google. Rarely do people care to understand how things work. Most want a quick fix. Hence SEO is often sold like Snake Oil. It may work. It may not work. And sometimes it may seem to work and then you’re busted for trying out evil tricks. (2/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude #Search engines are #website #aggregators, just like the food delivery aggregators who try to list every restaurant around us. But they also want to ensure that customers have a good experience. So they’ll prefer to recommend restaurants that offer great food and service. (3/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude For a restaurant to succeed you need to start with good food. But you always want to be improving: can your food be better? Can you offer better service? Can you make a great offer? If you are customer-focussed, the aggregators will focus on you. (4/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude What’ food is to a restaurant, #Content is to a website. Start with good content of interest, well written, in-demand, unique and original. Keep it regularly updated. Take time to identify & fix gaps in the content. This isn’t SEO: it benefits all visitors to your site. (5/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude Search engines consider 100s of “ranking signals” to differentiate good websites from bad ones. They aren’t officially stated (cause people will misuse them). But they all fulfill the tool’s primary objective i.e. serving good, relevant information to the search users. (6/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude Don’t cut the hen that lays the golden eggs. Google is your ally — not a tool that needs to be gamed or outsmarted. Don’t chase the ranking signals or adopt undocumented tactics. (7/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude Instead, focus on the aspects that #Search #Engines officially state. They mainly boil down to two things:
can the search crawlers access and understand your #content?
Are you offering a good user experience?
This is known as #TechnicalSEO. (8/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude #TechnicalSEO is a set of techniques to facilitate search engines to easily understand your website #content and aligning with what they care about i.e. providing a quality web experience to users. The @Moz SEO cheatsheet lays down the basics: d2v4zi8pl64nxt.cloudfront.net/seo-cheat-shee… (9/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude @Moz If you’re thinking “What are social media meta tags doing on an #SEO cheatsheet”, remember that social networks are also a big source of #web #traffic (probably as big as #search). Ultimately it also enables more people to discover your #website. (10/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude @Moz Also, understand your website’s shortcomings using

Keep a tab on the Google Webmaster Central Blog. Oh look, they’re also talking about page experience: webmasters.googleblog.com/2020/05/evalua… (11/12)
@souvikdg @hallidude @Moz That’s all you need to know about #TechnicalSEO. It covers what most of you will ever need to do for good #SEO. Beyond this, focus on your site’s content, keep it interesting & up-to-date. Tweet thread by @souvikdg, curator of #ContentWeb Series: hasgeek.com/metarefresh/co… (12/12)
