Happy #WorldOceansDay! Today we’re standing up for our blue planet and in solidarity with coastal communities by pressuring the cruise industry to clean up its act. Are you in?
We’re LIVE for #WorldOceansDay. Join the first-of-its-kinda virtual rally with port communities from across the world talking about cruise industry pollution: bit.ly/WorldOceansDay….
BREAKING: Port communities around the globe — including Venice Italy, Southampton UK, Alaska & Maine USA, Gold Coast Australia, Nassau Bahamas, and Bergen Norway — decry cruise industry pollution on #WorldOceansDay stand.earth/latest/protect…
“Tourists love @Glacier_Baynp, which is the Tlingit people’s ancestral homeland for over 14,000 years, but to accommodate the cruise industry, we are banned from entering our homeland — an injustice that hurts us still today.” Wanda Culp of Hoonah, Alaska #WorldOceansDay
“The private island model of cruise tourism is a modern-day blitzkrieg in the Bahamas. It is covered up by glossy photos of happy cruisers romping through previously pristine environments re-engineered into grotesque theme parks.” Sam Duncombe of Nassau, Bahamas #WorldOceansDay
“Juneau was once part of a vibrant tourism industry. Then the cancer of the modern cruise industry began. It slowly destroyed independent tourism — infecting our towns, dumping waste in our water, and polluting our air.” Karla Hart of Juneau, Alaska #WorldOceansDay
“I’ve heard many stories of what life is like cruise ships workers. It is a floating hell. The wages & working conditions are possible bc companies register ships in countries w weak labor laws, allowing them to exploit workers.” Klaus Gjukastein of Bergen, Norway #WorldOceansDay
“The port/cruise industry contribute ~23% of Southampton’s air pollution. I see patients with respiratory disease not fully explained by traditional risk factors. They should not pay the price for someone else's leisure.” Dr. Christelle Blunden of Southampton, UK #WorldOceansDay
“Cruise ships pose an existential threat to Venice’s future. Last June we witnessed the drama of the MSC Opera crashing into the city. As the industry grows & the number & size of ships increases, so does the damage they cause.” Jane da Mosto of Venice, Italy #WorldOceansDay
“Since 1986 the cruise industry has tried to weasel their way into our community & since 1986 we have blocked them. To port communities fighting cruise ships: never quit. If you organize & strategize, you will win.” Steven Gration of Gold Coast, Australia #WorldOceansDay

@RBC .@RBC 's 9.22 Billion in fossil fuel investments since Oct 2021 would cover 25% of disaster relief costs in Pakistan, as millions recover from devastating flooding.
Instead of investing in climate devastation & displacement, RBC could support communities impacted by fossil fuels.
@RBC In 2022, RBC has lent and underwrote 7.05 billion dollars in fossil fuels.
This is happening while RBC continues to greenwash and claim that it is committed to climate action.
.@AmyG_Standearth kicks-off grounding us in how @TotalEnergies' EACOP risks harming the lives & livelihoods of millions.
"This is not just a climate issue. This is a climate justice issue." 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
While @TotalEnergies & those attempting to push through EACOP claim it will benefit local communities, a majority of the fossil oil of the world's largest proposed pipeline would be for export.😡
In his ruling, Justice Thompson says “methods of enforcement of the court's order have led to serious and substantial infringement of civil liberties, including impairment of the freedom of the press to a marked degree” #FairyCreek
Of forest defenders, the Justice says: “They are respectful, intelligent, and peaceable by nature. They are good citizens in the important sense that they care intensely about the common good” 👏💯 #FairyCreekbccourts.ca/jdb-txt/sc/21/…
Ever heard that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is a climate-friendly fuel? Well, you’ve been sold a lie. LNG, made up of methane, is one of the fastest growing threats to our climate. RT to expose the truth about #LNG. #bcpoli#cdnpoli
Didn't think we'd need to say this, but the responses we're getting on this tweet really prove our point: the fossil fuel industry has done a great job convincing the public that "natural gas" is good. It's not. Read more here: vox.com/energy-and-env…
In B.C., methane emissions amounted to an estimated 8.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2017, according to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. That’s equal to 1,724,724 vehicles on the road for one year. Read more: thenarwhal.ca/climate-change…
