Q: Doc, doc, got a patient with CIDP. He wants to know when he can be off IVIG. He’s a gambling man, that he is. Wants to take his chances. #MedStudentTwitter #MedEd #AcademicTwitter
A: Game theory time! Naw, let’s see if we can answer it by closely looking at studies. Or just one. Check out the ICE study in 2008 and see if you can spot Wally. #meded
A: 1/5 of patients with CIDP placed on placebo for 24 weeks didn’t relapse. 1/2 on IVIG then placebo for 24 weeks didn’t relapse. Those numbers good for our gambling man? #doubledocs #AcademicTwitter #meded
Q: Cool doc, he says he’ll take them chances. How long does it take for IVIG to wash out? #meded
A: Half life of IVIG is 21 days. Remember your pharmacology? How many half lives does it take to wash out a drug? So why did I specifically mention the number of weeks in the ICE study? #MedEd
