NEW: @GovofCO Polis begins briefing by saluting #coleg legislators for their work during the pandemic and protests. Will thread notable details here. Watch live here: 9news.com/article/news/l… #9NEWS #COVID19colorado
Colorado will relax public health rules to allow facials, Polis says.
Residential summer camps will be able to open with up to 10 indoors, more outdoors. These overnight camps had previously been closed.
State guidelines will allow up to 100 people at indoor events, with proper spacing, Polis says.
Bars can open up to 25% capacity or 50 people.
Lip waxing will be allowed.
Never expected to tweet that.
The above guidelines are in draft form and open to public comment for 48 hours, expected to be finalized by end of week.
Polis says Colorado's success in knocking back COVID-19 is due to the individual decisions of Coloradans. "That is why we are here with good news and not bad news," Polis said. "We can't let the good news, so far, give us a false sense of security."
This thread is going to be a dumpster fire for my mentions for some time to come and I'll just have to be OK with that.
These Polis briefings that used to feel urgent and important now have the sizzle of mandatory safety meetings at work.
Polis says the next public health stage, now in draft form, is called Protect Our Neighbors.
"Now we have a new message. We need to exercise personal responsibility," said Gov. Polis/workplace safety meeting leader.
I'm thinking about deleting this entire thread.
guys there's a powerpoint
Protect Our Neighbors™ phase would allow gatherings of up to 500, with no more than 50% capacity at any venue or event. The 50% threshold could be increased for areas that show they're containing COVID-19 and could handle a surge, Polis said.
Polis talks about CU-Boulder students partying. "Inevitably, several of them have come down with coronavirus," Polis said, like a dad.
Polis says he's "deeply concerned" about rising COVID-19 numbers in neighboring states. Arizona and Utah get the gubernatorial side eye.
Q from @karanormal on layoffs in rural health systems. Polis reiterates that people shouldn't avoid going to the hospital. Points to reinsurance approval to reduce uncompensated care and increase hospital revenues.
Asked why Colorado is good at COVID-19 when other states are flunking the exam, Polis says the difference is human behavior and choices.
TBD with state approving communities entry into this new stage.
Polis says communities that don't demonstrate the ability to limit the virus' spread could have to revert to previous stages of public health guidance. The "Don't-Make-Me-Turn-This-Car-Around" warning.
The Gov is constantly stressing mask wearing. I don't always relay it since it's not new.
i wrote your names on the sign-in sheet, too. you're welcome.
Can we briefly return to the lip waxing thing? This is purely male ignorance here but it seems like it would be IMMENSELY PAINFUL.
Polis is answering a question, en Espanol, about his executive order effectively forstalling evictions for another 30 days. Requires landlords provide that notice prior to commencing eviction proceedings.
The briefing has concluded. Mask on. Polis out. He was super speedy and I couldn't screengrab it in time. The screengrab I got looks like the interpreter is giving me a thumbs up like, "Way to go. Worst briefing thread ever."
I'm done here. Going to get a lip wax.
