Richard Thompson Ford -- The Simple Falsehoods of Race

How Thomas Sowell (on the right) and Professor Michael C. Dawson (on the left) get it so wrong.

@mbraceTHEcool Professor Richard Thompson Ford on Professor Thomas Sowell

"Surely it is not controversial to insist that slaves and their descendants suffer more from slavery than do their masters and their descendants...." Image
@mbraceTHEcool ... Sowell’s historical counterexamples involve groups that had centuries to recover from slavery, in environments where its stigma did not remain a permanent handicap. Slavery is not unique to America, true enough. But American slavery was unique, ... Image
@mbraceTHEcool "The problem with talk about black culture, black crime, and black illegitimacy, as explanatory categories in the hands of the morally obtuse, is that it becomes an exculpatory device–a way of avoiding a discussion of mutual obligation.”

— Glenn C. Loury Image
@mbraceTHEcool - 250 years of race-based slavery
- 90 years of Jim Crow
- 60 years of Seperate but Equal
-100+ years of The Lily-white movement in the Republican Party

Who did all that?

White Liberal do-Gooders had more impact on blacks than centuries of race-based slavery?

Oh! Come, now.
@mbraceTHEcool What is about their "culture" that makes them cling hard to lies;
that makes them believe centuries of of (race-based) slavery, 90 years of Jim Crow, 60 years of Seperate but Equal have no rippling racial or economic impact- that the past doesn't impact/inform our present?
@mbraceTHEcool We have a White Nationalist Republican President -- and where is Mr. Sowell? Is he hiding -- perhaps in a bunker?
@mbraceTHEcool I like Professor Walter Williams.

He's a black libertatian economist; and I think this is some of his best work: "South Africa's War Against Capitalism" written in 1989 by Prof. Walter Williams. Image
@mbraceTHEcool With that said...

His views on The Confederacy are an abomination and an anathema to me. I reject those views.
Stick To Economics, Professor Williams

There is something deeply disturbing about opinion pieces such as this by Professor Walter Williams.

@mbraceTHEcool (Thomas & Walter).

Heres a question to consider...

The two leading black economist for over a decade on the Right are two men who minimize l the impact of slavery on the present.

Is that why they are popular? ImageImage
@mbraceTHEcool If so,..

It's not their minds they are after, but the racial narrative that their mind and skin color offer. A Twofer -- Two blacks for the price of one? Two black people who say liberals not slavery caused the problem.

Of course you'd flock to that.

Tailor-made for you...
@mbraceTHEcool And, why this obsession with economist vs. say historians on slavery or race? Is it because some conservatives prefer economic excuses vs the darker truth of #whitesupremacy? And, what are the consequences of such thinking on public policy -- in an age of colorblindness?
@mbraceTHEcool Our father and mother isn’t Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell! It’s Booker T Washington, Rev. Richard Allen, Malcolm X, Zora Neale Hurston, Alexander Crummel, Carter G. Woodson and Marcus Garvey (others).
@mbraceTHEcool FACT: Historian Harold Cruse called Marcus Garvey's movement (not Walter or Thomas)"the biggest stumbling block to #Communist penetration into Negro life."

ImageImage
@mbraceTHEcool They were babies when Marcus said this.

"#Communism robs the individual of his personal initiative and ambition or the result thereof"

-- Marcus Garvey #tcot Image
