#GalwanValley which has been in the eye of the storm was the backdrop for another standoff prior to the 1962 Indo-China War. It began in July 1962 when 400 Chinese soldiers surrounded the Indian post in the valley. India lodged a protest with China....
The Indian post with a strength of approximately 50 was besieged by a much larger Chinese force. India reiterated it's claim over #GalwanValley
PM Nehru who was "holidaying in Kashmir" was kept informed of the situation. Meanwhile China lodged a counter protest, alleging Indian intrusion on their territory.
The Chinese ambassador was summoned to EAM "in between his farewell lunch with the Prime Minister and farewell dinner with the Foreign Secretary" and told we are determined to hold on to Galwan Valley.
While the standoff at #GalwanValley continued, the Defence Minister Krishna Menon left for Geneva to attend the Laos conference
While the siege continued and more than a month had passed, there were several clashes with Chinese in other areas, and the Chinese also accused Indian troops of opening fire in the #GalwanValley
In late August India was able to reinforce the post at #Galwan . The opposition urged the government to "adopt a stiffer attitude in words as well as in action towards China."
The post in Galwan continued to be occupied right up to after the break out of hostilities in October.
