They have kept none of their promises. Project fear is most definitely project reality. But their con brought a massive group of us together and we turned our collective pain and anger and the attack on our lives into a European movement of epic proportions #FBPE . /2
We taught ourselves about aspects of the EU and trade that we didn’t even understand before, we learned how to network, how to form alliances. We made friends with people who we would never have had the opportunity to meet in our ordinary lives. /3
We marched, we organised, we learned how to campaign. We garnered our passion and galvanised into a movement - not of hate and of lies and of othering and of violence - but one of peace and reason and reality and truth. /4
We may have lost this particular chapter in history but our time will come again, a time when we will be needed and we will be ready to put the things we learned into action once again. Our road is just longer and more winding now. /5
I once told a friend that I was fighting despite the vanishingly poor odds because I could sleep at night knowing I had warned the people I loved. Despite the worries of what happens next I sleep like a baby. I don’t regret a single minute of the last 4 years. /6
We stood up for what’s right. I am proud of me, I am proud of all of us. Most importantly though, I would never have met all you amazing people out there who helped to gather a million people or more to march on parliament. /7
That was an achievement in itself. I see hand wringing critical threads sometimes berating us for doing this wrong or doing that wrong or saying the wrong things sometimes. But most of us went into the fight knowing the odds were heavily stacked against us. We did it anyway /8
I see criticism of this campaigner or that campaigner and fights amongst some small groups. I have always tried to remain apart from that. Don’t ever let that kind of thing get to you. We did good and no matter what you contributed, big or small you were all a part of it. /9
Don’t let anybody make you feel bad about what you did. Our movement is magnificent. Our resilience is remarkable. /10
In the end the group of people who set off the chain of events - the politicians weighed down by their enormous hubris, were the people who chopped our legs out from under us in 2019 with their continuing delusion and partisan BS. /11
The time we had together was amazing and I feel privileged to have played a small part and I look forward to the time when we can stand together again. I haven’t given up, it’s just the game has changed and one day we will get our star back. /END
