We hear stories about how the NHS is bad with digital technology, but here's a story of how the NHS can be quite remarkable, from a patient's perspective in terms of accessing data that previously would not be available directly to patients #digitalhealth 1/n
So as part of my lingering #covid19 journey, my GP ordered blood tests yesterday to look for signs of muscle damage. The blood test was done around 2pm at the hospital yesterday 2/n
My GP had told me the results would take a few days to arrive, so a call to discuss the results was scheduled for next Monday evening to give them enough time to arrive 3/n
However, I opened the NHS app on my phone this morning, and I was blown away to see that I could see some (but not all) of my blood test results in my medical record. I am so impressed! 4/n
Clicking on the results, shows detailed information, including the actual results themselves (and reference ranges) - Most of them are normal, but CRP showed up as borderline. The CRP result was filed into my medical record just 4 hours after blood was drawn yesterday!! 5/n
It's amazing that as a patient, some of the results have come back so quickly but more importantly I am able to access the results via the NHS app on my phone sitting at home 6/n
Naturally, I understand that whether the results are normal or not, I still need to have the call with my GP to discuss these results and to get her clinical opinion as my GP on what to do next, but it's so cool to have access to test results so quickly 7/n
It will be interesting to see how long the remainder of the blood test results take to arrive into my medical record. You shouldn't confuse the NHS app that I use, with the NHS covid-19 app nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/… 8/n
I have a relatively recent iPhone model so I'm lucky that I can login to the NHS app just using my face (with Face ID) - I imagine that would be even more useful for older people or anyone who has trouble with usernames and passwords 9/n
If I had a wish list, it would have been even better if the NHS app had sent me a notification to say "Hey Maneesh, some of yesterday's blood test results have arrived. Tap to view" /end
