/ COVID (@UCSanDiego) Chronicles - July 5, 2020

As we end this holiday weekend @UCSDHealth is caring for 47 inpatients with #COVID19. Overall @SanDiegoCounty bed capacity is fine with 382 total inpatients, though will be watching closely for an ↑ in based on recent data.
/ The amazing @UCSDHealth #SARSCoV2 results team is monitoring >100 patients at home or in public health temporary housing. This is the highest # of people monitored in home isolation in a single day. It is also 10x higher than baseline monitoring responsibilities 6 weeks ago.
/ #SARSCoV2 test results from July 4th, 2020 shows another record setting day with 562 new cases identified in @SanDiegoCounty and 5,410 new cases in California.
/ Over 30% of @SanDiegoCounty #COVID19 deaths have involved residents from the South Bay. "Likely the result of social factors that have long been known to impact health, such as poverty, access to health care and the availability of affordable housing."

/ The @JohnsHopkins #COVID19 mortality analysis suggests that the United Kingdom has the highest # of deaths per 100k population, followed by the USA.

/ On Friday, the UK placed American citizens on a "red list" that requires travelers to quarantine for 14 days after entering the country. Britain follows the EU example, which earlier confirmed that America would not be on the "safe list" of countries. foxnews.com/world/britain-…
/ Interestingly, @USC reversed course this week and announced that only 10-20% of classes will be offered in person and on campus this fall latimes.com/california/sto…
/ @UCSanDiego continues "Return to Learn" planning with some important caveats. “Ultimately, we must be prepared at very short notice to reduce or limit on-campus activities and move to fully remote should pandemic conditions worsen at any point.”

/ Finally, in a bit of bright news...I am incredibly thrilled to be part of the @ucmilkbank! This first milk bank in southern California is on track to open later this summer thanks to many donors and the incredible leadership of Dr. Lisa Stellwagen.
