I’m someone who was sexually abused by a relative as a child & when I told my father he immediately said I was lying. He actually took the side of the perpetrator. I cannot begin to describe to you the pain this has caused me for years until today and will continue to do so

In the Quran, we’re told that women ‘forget’ details and that one male witness is equivalent to 2 female witnesses. So we have a false narrative that is supported and validated by God.

The bottom line is, it is encoded in our minds’ programming that women are not to be believed or trusted. We women know this very well. That’s why we either scream at the top of our lungs or we freeze in silence.

Either way the very thing we need to exist and count-our voice, our self expression- is taken away from us. Our power is taken away from us twice: first through the act of sexual assault or rape and again when we’re not believed. Imagine the depth of this trauma for a minute 6/10
Then you wonder why sexual harassment & rape are so prevalent in society. It’s because we’ve been talking for years and years and the automatic listening is: we don’t believe you.
