NEW: Trump’s Use of Unidentified Federal Officers to Suppress Protest Is Backfiring in Senate and Presidential Battlegrounds, according to @ppppolls data we commissioned this week.

Majorities of #AZ, #ME, and #NC voters oppose Trump’s secret police program piloted in Portland this week and promised in other cities. What’s more, voters want Congress to intervene. But their Republican senators haven’t backed the legislation to rein in Trump.

We’ve watched in horror as Trump’s agents have used violence without accountability or transparency in Portland. Many have seen this same abuse from CPB agents on the border for a long time. This is a deeply dangerous jolt against democracy and for a strongman state.

Voters don’t like what @realDonaldTrump is doing and are fed up with @MarthaMcSally, @SenSusanCollins, and @ThomTillis carrying water for him as he trundles toward authoritarianism.

That might be why our polls show all 3 of them trailing their Dem opponents among registered voters.

Amidst our 4 millionth confirmed COVID case, its mounting death count, and falling polling in key states like FL & MI, @realDonaldTrump is making more violent plays to his base. It’s dangerous for our country and our people, but also endangering GOP hopes of keeping the Senate.

In all these states, a high number of voters (over 60%) are paying close attention to this issue -- even if forces aren’t sent to their cities -- and are opposing these tactics and their GOP senators.

In all 3 states, voters support the steps to start reining in unaccountable feds we’ve seen in Portland included in @SenJeffMerkley’s Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act. 42 cosponsors on this essential bill—Collins, McSally, and Tillis missing.

That bill would be a start. We need Congress to investigate this abuse of Trump’s power (just as the DOJ’s Inspector General is). Members of Congress and local electeds should personally go monitor feds for use of violence on their constituents.

They should continue to reject Trump’s agents (as @RashidaTlaib, @ORDOJ and many others have), and vow to prosecute those who break the law (as @DA_LarryKrasner has). And we all need to do our part, including by voting out Trump and his enablers.
