In the late hours of the night, Jason Kenney and the UCP used the heavy handed #ableg measure known as time allocation to stifle debate and force through final passage of their Bill 30, which opens the door to privatized for-profit big corporate healthcare in #Alberta.
Now they have done the same thing to halt debate on #ableg Bill 32, their new labour law which attacks every worker in #Alberta on many fronts. The UCP's Bill 32 attacks workers in both unionized and non-union work environments.
For unionized shops, Bill 32 silences the union's voice by introducing new rules that will make it impossible for unions to properly collect and use dues. This change will have many terrible effects, including the removal of unions abilities to support charities and causes.
Bill 32's changes will also stop unions from being able to properly advocate on the many issues their membership cares about. Bill 32 is a blatant attempt to illegally stifle unions important voices, and is almost certainly unconstitutional.
For non-union shops, Bill 32 is an attack on workers pocketbooks. Many small changes add up to a big attack on working Albertans. Bill 32 allows employers to reduce holiday pay, overtime pay, and even lets employers needlessly withhold a terminated worker's final pay for longer.
The UCP are further enriching their corporate friends by literally nickel-and-diming all #Alberta workers!

We in the Alberta NDP Official Opposition stand firmly and completely opposed to both #ableg Bill 30 and Bill 32.
Rachel Notley and I will continue to fight in #ableg to protect the public health care you care about, and for the rights of every working Albertan.

The UCP's changes are not in the public interest. Jason Kenney is clearly leading #Alberta down the wrong track.
