#Thread

This thread is in response to the quoted tweet, as promised. Q was ‘Why is Hanumanji worshipped on Saturday?’

Saturday is the day that belongs to Shani Dev (Saturn) and worshipping Hanumanji on Saturday is believed to lessen the ill-effect of Shani Dev on one’s life.
There’s an interesting back story on why this came to be. I heard this story as a child and narrating it here as is, not sure if there’s any scriptural reference available for it, so let’s dive into it.

The incident dates back to the time of Ramayana, Ravana won three worlds +
and had captured all Devtas. He had Devtas doing menial jobs at his palace in Lanka and as for Navgrahas (who’s believed to influence people’s lives), he used them as steps leading to his throne. Every day he used to step on them and climb to his throne, +
@HelloNNewman
this act of humiliation angered the Navgrahas but alas they’re helpless. Shani Dev, however was fuming and made vow to do something the first opportunity he gets.

The opportunity presented itself in form of Meghnad/Indrajeet’s birth. Ravana was invincible and for all purpose +
an immortal (until a mortal came along), he wanted similar fate for his soon to be born son. He, as an astrologer (some account mentions him consulting Bhagwan Brahma), takes matter into this own hands.

Since he won over Navgrahas, he planned to have them all placed in one place (11th House) to ensure that Meghnad/Indrajeet is invincible throughout his life. While other 8 grahas were muttering and discussing about how having a younger version of Ravana would spell further +
disaster, Shani Dev was planning to make this opportunity count. Shani Dev, using the dirt on his body (from lying on the steps) created Gulika/Kuligai and threw it in 12th House (which is considered to be most inauspicious).
@SriRamya21 @RajiIndustani @Prisma_Me @Krishna_Priiya
Gulika/Kuligai is the very essence of Shani Dev and having that essence in 12th House ensured that Meghnad/Indrajeet does not stay invincible.

Ravana, though was able to feel the presence of Shani Dev in 12th House, exactly at the time of his son’s birth, he got furious and imprisoned him. This is where Hanumanji enters, it’s believed that Hanumanji while in Lanka searching for Sita Maa came across the place where +
Shani Dev was held captive. Hanumanji freed him and in turn Shani Dev blessed and gave boon to Hanumanji that he (Shani Dev) will not affect him. Hanumanji, however sought the blessings to be extended to people who pray to him too. @Dharma_Yoddhaa @amatya18
Therefore, we often find people offering prayers to both Shani Dev and Hanumanji on Saturday.

Hope, this answers the Q.
