1/18 Some here believe they've uncovered a "secret letter" that @PatrickZhuwao & I sent to @MYANC on 5 July 2020. For Christ's sake, the letter was made public by Zhuwao. There're reasons why it was shared. It's best to uncover them before jumping into conclusions!

2/18 It's sad & most unfortunate that in Zim, public discourse is invariably poisoned by a negative focus on persons over issues or ideas. Any public duscourse that seeks to box targeted or hated individuals into a thoughtless culdesac is absurd, crass & unhelpful!

3/18 Our letter is only a problem statement as an invitation to @MYANC to have a conversation on the crisis in Zim; given SA's critical role in Zim politics. The letter has talking points with no solutions. It was intended to kickstart, not to end the conversation!

4/18 The yellow in the attachment describes for the @MYANC the Zim crisis. We tell them that Zim is now a military state wherein the army has swallowed #ZanuPF since its Nov 2017 coup. The green is the predicate of the yellow & the blue is the request that we made!

5/18 The green in the above tweet's attachment is our advice to @MYANC on 5 July 2020 that:

"We don't believe that there's an alternative political formation in Zimbabwe which can address this crisis". Some have said this means we want to rejoin ZanuPF. Nonsense!

6/18 Our advice to @MYANC is based on two cucial points:

i. ZanuPF is now overtly under the military & cannot be an alternative and;
ii. All major Zim political formations supported the Nov 2017 military coup & none has, as an alternative, challenged the military!

7/18 Given the above two points & that our @MYANC letter was sent on 5 July 2020 when #31July2020 had been set for mass action; we advised the #ANC that there was no political formation on the ground to lead the mass action; as an alternative social force or base!

8/18 We sent our 5 July 2020 letter to the @MYANC because we were aware & concerned that some "G40" Cdes had sent a letter to the #ANC on 2 July 2020; whose worrying import was that some "G40 Kingpins" were ready to return to Zim with #ZanuPF or military blessing!

9/18 We didn't want to make public our 5 July 2020 letter to @MYANC but we were forced on 6 Aug 2020 after a confidential photo with @MYANC officials & worrying msgs & flyers started circulating about a #ZanuPF Special Congress allegedly linked to the so-called G40!

10/18 While we respect that Zim's 2013 Constitution protects freedom of association, we note that among the so-called G40 Kingpins, only @PatrickZhuwao & I have used the #ZanupfMustGo & #31July2020 hashtags. To us, #ZanuPF & all its factions now belong in the past!

11/18 We have consistently used the #ZanupfMustGo, #31July2020 & #31JulyMovement hashtags because we're not #ZanuPF & can't be, again. There're good & decent folks in #ZanuPF but #ZanuPF itself is now irretrievably evil. It's important to convince @MYANC about this!

12/18 Some view #ZanuPF & #TheLiberationMovement as one & the same thing. We don't. The liberation struggle was fought by & for all Zimbabweans. That's why the liberation struggle & veterans of the liberation struggle are now recognized in Zim's 2013 Constitution!

13/18 We reject the ahistorical view that #ZanuPF is the liberation movement or that delusional war veterans are the stockholders of the liberation struggle. The liberation movement is about the enduring tradition, ethos & values that drove the liberation struggle!

14/18 We understand why @MYANC prefers to engage its sister liberation parties in the @SADC_News region; but we think that approach is now outdated & un unstrategic. The time has come for the #ANC to adopt an inclusive, people-oriented & not party-based engagement!

16/18 It's absurd that we have people with the audacity to claim that after publishing EXCELGATE only 8 months ago in Dec 2019, exposing #ZanuPF & #Army election theft in 2018, I can now ask @MYANC to help us go back to #ZanuPF. Our strategy is national & nuanced!

18/18 This is our request to @MYANC: We are requesting the #ANC to positively and substantively intervene to help save the tradition, ethos and values of the liberation movement in Zimbabwe.
This cannot be about us rejoining #ZanuPF or saving it. That's why #ZanuPF is mad at us!
