Immigration advocates were repeatedly screaming about this and no one gave a fuck.

I know of one case for example where a man was same-day deported from Otay Mesa, which had the largest COVID19 outbreak at the time. No test. No quarantine period.

Not to mention the fact that deportation flights continued unabated and no one was tested, planes weren’t cleaned, etc.

We are probably the largest exporter of COVID19 in the world thanks to our detention and deportation machine.

When the borders closed and Americans were trapped abroad btw, @StateDept was supposed to help get people home and I know of one case where an American in a high risk age group was almost put on a plane back to the US with other citizens. A plane which had been used to deport ppl

They ultimately canceled that because the plane couldn’t be sanitized.

Because I guess American citizen lives mattered slightly more to them than the lives of migrants. Slightly.

ICE also routinely moves detainees around all over the country.

Every single person in ICE detention is terrified for their life right now in a way that you could never understand. They have NO CONTROL over their surroundings, little to no PPE, etc.

Pretty much everyone in ICE detention has a sponsor in the US btw.

Sponsors have to vouch for the person, say they will make sure they comply with ICE check-ins, etc. And yet still people AND CHILDREN are regularly being denied parole.

Why? Because we have a regime of cruelty

And don’t forget that we have to keep those prison beds full in order to make money for private detention contractors like @CoreCivic and @GEOGroup

American citizens in jails and prisons are not being treated any better btw. They too are in close quarters with no control over their safety, no PPE, etc.

But then why would anyone care about them, since so many are Black and brown.
