'Sabhi Jawan Mere Peechhe .. Dahine se Charge'
Sub Paale Ram, 3 JAT, during the battle for Dograi, 1965, when stalled by enemy machinegun fire.
Junior Leadership at its Best!
THIS is the kind of junior leader he created - One that would take charge when needed
3
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Oh, by the way, Subedar Paale Ram led that assault from the front, silencing the offending machine gun, taking SIX bullets to his stomach & chest.
Yet, this Balwan Jat survived to receive his Vir Chakra himself & tell his tale!
It was a CRAZY night at Dograi!

Simple orders by Lt Col Desmond Hayde, Commanding Officer, to his Jats -
Kal Subah Kahan Milna hai, zinda ya murda?
Answer: Dograi
5
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Second order for his Jats
'Agar CO Sahab ko chot lag gayi ya maare gaye to kya karna hai?'
Answer: CO Sahab ko utha kar Dograi le jana hai
6
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Such was the leader, Lt Col Desmond E Hayde, that led his Jats across the Ichhogil in the very first days of the 1965 war.
The unit was, however, ordered to withdraw subsequently due to non availability of reinforcements. Image
7
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Then about two weeks later the men of 3 JAT wrested the town of Dograi from Pakis once AGAIN, in the process routing an entire battalion of Pakistan Army.
80 Jats fell, fatally wounded that night, yet they scripted history just because their CO wanted Dograi!
8
#ObituaryOfTheDay
The best compliment to them came from an enemy JCO as he fled across the Ichhogil. 'Only my old Paltan could've done this', he'd shouted as he withdrew.
Apparently, he was part of 3 JAT before independence!

#ObituaryOfTheDay
Naik Chain Singh, Maha Vir Chakra (Posth), 9 Punjab
The one who chose to stay behind.
Here's his story .. Image
2
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Nk Chain Singh was born in Village Bhain Bangar in Gurdaspur, Punjab on 19 Oct 1931.
At exactly 20yrs of age, he got enrolled into 9th Battalion The Punjab Regiment.
Just about 11 years later, he found himself in command of a section in Tsangle, NEFA.
3
#ObituaryOfTheDay
On 09 Oct 1962, his platoon was ordered to move from Tsangle and reinforce a vital position at Tsengjong, north of the Namka Chu river.
Later at night, one more platoon joined them to increase the strength of the position to 56 men.
4
#ObituaryOfTheDay
The troops had limited ammunition to fight with & hardly any time to prepare their defences.
On the morning of 10th Oct 1962, more than 500 Chinese, concentrated in the north and east of this post, started shelling it with guns and mortars.
5
#ObiuaryOfTheDay
Soon came the much expected physical assault. Although outnumbered nearly 10 to 1 and with a limited quantity of ammunition, own troops held their own and beat back the attack with heavy casualties to the Chinese.
6
#ObituaryOfTheDay
However, the determined & logistically/numerically superior enemy soon launched a second, even stronger attack.
Once again, the Punjabis refused to give in, or for that matter, die. Instead, they held their own, littering the battlefield with Chinese corpses.
7
#ObituaryOfTheDay
But the poor logistics soon forced their hand and realizing the rapidly exhausting state of ammo, the company commander ordered own troops to pull back.
8
#ObituaryOfTheDay
However, the troops were still in contact with the enemy, & couldn't just get up & move back.
It was at this stage that Nk Chain Singh took charge of his section's LMG & let loose a hail of bullets on the enemy, giving cover to own troops for their withdrawal.
9
#ObituaryOfTheDay
With most of enemy fire now directed at this lone warrior, the inevitable soon happened - he got hit by enemy machine gun fire.
10
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Grievously wounded, he still kept up an effective fusillade of fire on the Chinese, giving all the cover that he could give as his comrades made their way to safety.
11
#ObituaryOfTheDay
However he could not continue long as another final, fatal burst from the enemy gun hit him in the head killing him instantaneously.
12
#ObituaryOfTheDay
This brave son of Mother India had sacrificed himself for the sake of his fellow brothers in arms, in a part of his Nation that couldn't possibly have been much farther from his birthplace.
13/13
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Thus ended the 30 years and 356 day journey of Nk Chain Singh in that lifetime
A grateful Nation honoured his supreme sacrifice with a posthumous Maha Vir Chakra. Image

Of course they were called out for being .. well .. BBC!
So they changed the map. Yet the clever ones could not bring themselves to hiding their blinkered glasses.
They shaded the correct limits of Indian territory, yet they couldn't bring themselves to acknowledge it all! Image
On a similar note, here is another map of India in "The Mirror" of UK some years ago.
Very subtle indeed!
They corrected it later, though. Image

Ok folks, carrying on from this thread on J&K history quoted below, let me now share some thoughts about the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir as it stands today.
In spite of successive Indian Governments’ insistence that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir has been integral part of India since the signing of Instrument of Accession, doubts have been raised by many on its legality.
This is due to deliberately created false narratives by Pakistan and other inimical elements, which has cluttered the issue. This thread will attempt to de-clutter the same and bring out the fact that the whole region indeed belongs to India without a shadow of doubt.

Ok folks, so since Gilgit-Baltistan has been in news quite a bit in the past few days and weeks, let me share some perspective on PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In this thread, I intend talking about a historical perspective to the issue and the legal status of PoJK / GB.
Here goes..
But first, I will share this video of the Prime Minister of India speaking from the Red Fort not very long ago.
Then last year, after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, came these statements from the Home Minister, clearly specifying the territorial limits of Jammu and Kashmir.
