I’m in Portland to cover the far right #ProudBoys rally. Follow along here for photo/video updates and/or check out my livestream on FB, Periscope, or YouTube.
Walmart stacked pallets in front of their windows and doors ahead of today’s rally. This woman was not happy to discover this.
Armed supporters of the Proud Boys, dressed in full military fatigues and wearing “body cams” are directing us where to go
A couple hundred Proud Boys are in Delta Park. #portland
Designated security is asking @FordFischer, a journalist, to leave a public park because he is “antifa”. #Portland
This “Proud Boy” traveled from Florida for today’s rally.
“Based Spartan” and his adult daughter, Bianca Turano, just arrived to Delta Park
A lot of waiting around now as people aren’t sure what to do or where to go now that the rally is over
Well this is something I haven’t seen before... a shield that can shock an enemy. A quick search showed a price of $1200 #PortlandProtest
Unclear where Proud Boys, III%s, Patriot Prayer, etc went. Any tips greatly appreciated.
I just arrived to Irving Park where a motorcade in support of #BLM is ongoing
Just drove around the entire perimeter of the Vancouver Mall. No one here 🤷♂️
No word on where everyone went... my guess would be to eat and drink more. I’d imagine people will come back out tonight. I overheard a PB saying “we were promised a battle”, as if upset they weren’t met with violence.
While at Irving Park, I spoke to someone in black bloc and asked if they ever planned to attend the rally at Delta. “No. We weren’t falling for their bullshit.”
"If we don't stand up/fight for our beloved country/our god-given rights/our 1st/2nd amendment/life/our children's future/our own parent's futures/our faith, then we're handing it over to these Marxists/anarchists/all those liberals who hate our president..."
More from an "Oregon Women for Trump" spokeswoman:
"I think its [America] better than it used to be. My life is better. And guess what, if you don't like it, get the hell out."
"America gonna have a purge of communists very soon. We gonna purge those motherfuckers. You can't be a communist and be American. That shit is illegal. So the gov't won't do anything, it's gonna be up to us. We gonna do it... liberate Portland... a good commie is a dead commie."

🧵I am starting my journey today with an American & Ukrainian aid worker to deliver supplies to those most vulnerable/affected along the eastern and southern front lines in #Ukraine. Please follow along for updates throughout the week.
Started in Kyiv this morning, got on a 4-hour train to meet people I didn’t know in a different city, jumped into their black van, drove 12 hours across the entire country and will be sleeping 18 miles from the Russian border.
Helluva day.
Stopped at the site of a former cafeteria in Izium. The city was under Russian occupation & was the site of horrific war crimes. It was liberated in September. So far, one mass grave has been found in the city containing at least 440 bodies, some w/ hands tied behind their backs.
For those that don't know, Moldova is situated in a strategic position for Russia. One long sliver of Moldova borders E Ukraine (called Transnistria), which is under military occupation of Russia. There are 1500 Russian troops there + the largest ammo depot in Eastern Europe.
Russia has started the groundwork of destabilizing the country. Last Tuesday, Putin revoked a 2012 foreign policy decree that in part recognized Moldova’s independence. Russia’s MoD then accused Ukraine of “preparing an armed provocation” against Transnistria, w/o any evidence.
I came across this powerful post by Michael @McFaul, a Professor of Political Science at Stanford University & former US Ambassador to Russia. I recommend subscribing to his substack, but I will include his post about Ukraine in the thread below... open.substack.com/pub/michaelmcf…
"I just got back from the Munich Security Conference last night. It’s one of my favorite conferences as it allows me to see many people from across the European continent and the world in just one long weekend..."
"...Until Putin invaded Ukraine, it was also one of the only places in the world that I could meet with Russians – diplomats, MPs, think-tankers, and businesspeople (aka “oligarchs”) – since I have been on Putin’s sanctions list since 2014..."
The center of Warsaw is preparing for President Biden’s motorcade.
Ukrainians have put up a banner stating, “Mr. Biden, send F-16 to Ukraine” across from where the President is staying. I could hear these chants in my hotel a distance away, so I can only imagine this can be heard within his hotel.
