So, that’s two debates so far without any mention of family separation or immigration issues in general, am I correct?
Why the fuck is this happening?
Dear @TheDemocrats: Immigration is an ELECTION YEAR ISSUE.
It should be an election year issue each and every time so long as we have cruel and punitive policies which rip apart families and perpetuate abuse, murder, and torture.
You know why I didn’t have to tweet the GOP about this?
Because immigration has been their issue for a while now.
The Orange Moron won an entire election just by scaring white Americans with the specter of Black and brown people coming for them.
So what does it say to immigrants when they see @TheDemocrats utter not a single word about what this president has unleashed on their communities? How do you think that makes them feel??
Americans came out EN MASSE in 2018 to say that NO to family separation, that this will NOT stand.
This is a bright, red line, they said.
And now, two years later, it’s all but forgotten.
Oh, you’re embarrassed to talk about it because Democrats presidents and lawmakers have made some utterly AWFUL moves on immigration?
Well, here’s your chance to turn it all around! Your voters aren’t morons, they will understand the complexity.
And besides, today we have so many Democrat lawmakers who are tireless champions for immigrants, who are immigrants themselves, who truly are passionate about this issue.
You wouldn’t be counted a hypocrite to jump onto their coattails.
Naturally, I set up and ran all the social media and comms.
When our FB page was still a sliver of the size that it is now, when news started coming out about babies being taken from their parents, I started receiving what can only be described as an avalanche of messages.
These were people who probably had little to no understanding of the immigration system, never gave a thought to it in their lives and they were FRANTIC.
What can I do? they all asked me.
Because most Americans can still tell when there is a GRAVE injustice being perpetrated.
Most people can feel it deep in their soul, down to their very core, when something is just WRONG and there is no explaining it away.
I shit you not, @TheDemocrats, I sat there in my home barely able to keep up with the flood of messages from people DESPERATE to do something to help.
You could only DREAM of engagement like this in response to your fundraising emails I bet.
I’m going to repeat this: people can sense injustice.
And in our immigration system, it’s injustice upon injustice, piled on top of more injustices.
Friends, I just talked to my Dad about his voting plan.
First of all, bless his heart, he refuses to vote by mail 😡 But let’s put that aside for a moment.
He told me he’s pretty sure he’s voting for Biden.
PRETTY SURE
By the end of the conversation, he told me he’s 99.9% for Biden, but not before I had several heart attacks along the way.
Heart attack #1: He said he wanted to see the rest of the debates first.
Heart attack #2: He said Trump has done some good things.
I asked for an example and he said he liked that Trump is demanding that the Europeans put more money into NATO instead of the US shouldering everything.
Immigration advocates were repeatedly screaming about this and no one gave a fuck.
I know of one case for example where a man was same-day deported from Otay Mesa, which had the largest COVID19 outbreak at the time. No test. No quarantine period.
When the borders closed and Americans were trapped abroad btw, @StateDept was supposed to help get people home and I know of one case where an American in a high risk age group was almost put on a plane back to the US with other citizens. A plane which had been used to deport ppl
